Friends,
We are having feedback from the new immigrants and prospective immigrants for their reasons of migration to Canada in the thread: Why Immigrate to Canada? and so far there are 50 replies to that thread out of which I could notice only 20 from new/prospective immigrants even though we have more than 4000 members to canadiandesi.com.
Everybody has different reasons of migration, some are based on assumptions and some are influenced by the facts and figures about Canada, published in different sources.
I don't know about those Desis who come to Canada via Dubai, Africa, USA or other countries but as far Desis, who straight come from India are concerened, probably for them, getting immigration for Canada is considered as 'the biggest dream come true' in their life. The moment you file your papers, you start dreaming about 'life in Canada'.....speculations start.........kaisa hoga Canada?......settle kaise honge?........job milegi ya nahin?.........bachon ka future kaisa hoga? etc..etc... Till the time you get your VISA, thinking never stops. Once you get your landing papers and you tell others about your immigration, flood of 'CONGRATS' start coming. Yaar-dost jalan karne lag jaate hain...........saale Canada chala jaayega........dollars kamayega.............humein bhool na jaana.......wahan jaake humein bhi bula lena................pados ki aunty daily ghar pe aake 'badhai' deti hai aur saath mein parents ko bol jaati hai: aapka kya hai, ab to beta-bahu Canada jaa rahe hain, saari chinta khatam.....ek-aadh saal mein tum bhi chale jaayoge......life ke maje ho gaye.......saare rishteydaaron ke phone calls badh jaate hain...........kabhi kisi ke yahan dinner to kabhi kisi ke yahan sham ki chai...........door daraj se log apne bachon ko bhejna shuru kar dete hain ki 'jaao bete, bhiyya se guidance le ke aao ki Canada kaise jaana hai'........
To lo , aakhir woh din bhi aa gaya, jiska intezaar tha.............airport pe sab kareebi rishtedaar (mummy/papa, mama/mami, chacha/chachi, bhai/bhabhi/bhatija/bhatiji, behn/behnoi....) vida karne ke liye aa pahunche........pahunchte hi phone karna.........ghabrana nahin..........humari chinta mat karna.........apna aur bahu ka khayal rakhna.......suna hai Canada mein sardi bahut hoti hai, thand se bach ke rehna...... topi, gloves pehn ke rakhna..........kisi cheej ki zaroorat ho to sharmana nahin........koi aata-jaata hoga to uske haath bhijwa denge...........sharma ji ka padosi toronto mein hai.........Number liya tha na? Use phone kar lena, sharma ji keh rahe the, achha ladka hai, badi help karega........................paise ki zaroorat ho to bata dena...........naya mulk hai, pata nahin kaisa hoga?.............phone zaroor kar dena...............

Liziye sahab, aa gaya Canada.........dil mein ek ajeeb si ghabrahat shuru........airport pe har koi aadmi praya sa lage.........koi bhi ghoor ke dhekhe to yun lage ki pata nahin kya soch raha hoga humaare baare mein...........luggage airport se bahar le ke jaana hai to 'Trolley' kahan se leni hai, pata nahin.........nazrein 'apne Desi' bandon ko talaash rahi hain..............aaj tak Desi logon pe itna pyaar nahin aaya tha, jitna aaj achanak umad-umad kar gir raha hai...........koi 'non-gora' dikhe to lagta hai ki 'Indian hai!'...........

SIN card, Bank account, Library Card, TTC/Mississauga Transit................ab shuru hoti hai "PHIR WOHI TALAASH"

4 saal beet gaye aur aaj hum yahan hain!!!!!

Now, the question arises: JO SOCHA THA, JISKE LIYE GHAR-BAAR CHHODA, WOH MILA YA NAHIN?

Feedback Pleeeeeese!

Sanjeev sahab,

Humne yahan bahut kuch paaya, aur bahut kuch seekha bhi,
Dil ka khilna abhi baaki hai...
Isiliye..abhi yahan se jaane ka waqt aa gaya hai...yahan bilkul man nahin lagta hai :)
Dil India ke liye tadap raha hai...machal raha hai..and for a single person like me...hamare liye koi intezaar kar rahi hai wahan pe !

As for the TALAASH.... am sorry to inform you, yahan par aapki talaash khatam nahi hogi !
Wapas aapko Hindustan jaana padega, apna talaash khatm karne ke liye !
:)

being in Canada and reaching for Money is like being in a ocean and reaching for sun ; the furthur you go the more distant you are from the shore but yet despite all the hardwork unable to find the sun for which you had set out for.

Sucess is not an accident it is a result of hardwork with intelligence.

Sanjeevm and others

Talaash khatm nahi hui, lekin jab talash karne nikle the, tab ya ab tak yeh maloom hai kya ki talaash kya kar rahe the - ya kabhi ye bhi socha tha kya ki jis cheez ki talaash hai, voh Canada main miltee hai, ya shayad ghar main hi thi?

I think most people, were not sure what they wanted, and did not do enough research to aquaint themselves with conditions in the west. All they saw was Hollywood films, imported stuff in special markets in the city and huge suitcases of visiting friends and relations to India from the west. As you have pointed out Sanjeev, 'jara bhaiya se gyan lekar aana ki Kanada jane ke liye kya karna hota hai' is the only thought that comes to mind.......never, WHY oh WHY does chote miyan want to come to Canada.

Infact, after going thru the posts in the thread why immigrate to Canada, I was sadly surprised to note that in today's world when information is available thru so many media, even educated people, internet savvy persons, persons who are supposedly in good positions professionally just decide to come to Canada with so many illusions. They say better quality of life, without knowing what they mean by it, they say better future/education for children without ever analysing what exactly is better education and better future, and yes, more money, as if in Canada, instead of maple syrup from maple trees, you get dollars falling down!

I think the first thing is to define the reasons why one wants to come to Canada, and Jake's topic was really good - but not a single person could give an analytical or thought out reply. They all wrote as if they were reading the chapters/index page of a book without having read the book itself. People from middle east have written reasons like no possibility of being able to buy a property - I say is that so necessary so as to give away other good things in life. They talk about rights - as a common man, what rights does one enjoy in his daily life? Can he go against the boss and disobey him ? Even the senior persons in the sponsorship scandal could not do it for the fear of their bosses - so what rights do they enjoy?

I have realized that to be successful, one has to have a goal, and be aware of his own strengths. It is no use pursuing a goal when you have the knowledge that you do not have the strength. It is no use writing 'we will do any job' and then saying 'oh no, I can't clean the toilets', or 'bhai khana to biwi hi banana janti hai, hum to chai bhi nahi bana sakte'

So, bahut zaroori hai yeh sochna ki talassh kis ki hai, or jiski hai, us manzil tak pahunchne ke liye jo rastaa apnana hai, who manjoor hai ya nahin?

Aur Sanjeevsahab, yeh manzil aur jagah ka talluk samaj mein nahin aaya. Kyonki meain manta hoon ke manzil dimaag mein hoti hai, bahar nahi. Maine apne desh mein 15 hajar rupay kamane wale ko bade aaram se jite dekha hai, aur apne hi desh mein lakhpatiyon ko non-stop tension mein dekha hai.

Halake paisa aur ek acchi naukri hona zaroori hai, mein ein dono ko manzil nahi maanta.

To aap pehle yeh samjao ke aap manzil kise kehte hai? Kyonki hamare khayalat to badalte rehte hai har waqt, yaani jo India se soch kar aaye the, agar woh mil bhi gaya to shayad tassalli nahi hogi.

Khair maza aaya, aapki post padhke. Rishtadaron aur doston ki comments badi sahi hai yaar, aise hi hota hai! :D
