A story which is applicable to, my personal guess, 70% of professional immigrants coming to Canada.

This story is good enough to be put on the home page of Canada - infact, that gives me an idea - why shouldn't we propose a section 'Story/Article of the month' and put in both the good and the bad of migration to Canada?!

But apart from everything else, one thing is almost certain - NO ONE SHOULD THINK OF MIGRATING TO CANADA AFTER THE AGE OF SAY 34-35, unless he is a professional invited into the country for a confirmed and reasonably medium term job/professional occupation.

I wonder how one at age of 40+ one thinks to get fit in the system as he is back home. Okay if think that one can again start at base level. That is also not so easy.

Let me gave u analogy in IT terms.

If some body( Mr. X) with 40+ age did some basic system programming course. Goes to potential recruiter and say he wants to do entry level embedded development programmer job (through Mr. X have 15 years of mainframe experience). Recuiter will feel very uncomfortable to recruit that guy. As it will be difficult to fit in the team.

This gentleman was lawyer by profession. He could have easily settled in UK as there & ours south Asian laws are same. The laws of US/Canada are totally different. So doing again some law course and want to fit with in system will be not so easy
Even then if they want to settle for kid’s sake. They should have done their homework proper. What was need to spend whole money to live in style. Better could have used this money on some investment to get returns. The wife could have join in some call center if her English language was so good. Why she keep trying for teaching job only.
Any body coming to Canada after some age( 30+, 40+) have to understand one thing quite clear. Have some lateral thinking. Now the days of single career in single field are gone. U need to keep updates your skill set & be ready to work in another field also. This is grim in global reality. That’s is the reason new passing marks criteria is changed.
Now they see as whole what a person & Also his/her spouse is doing. His communication skills are better judged now. Marks are given based on that.

My experience is that GTA is bad for newcomers, other parts of the country look more promising. I know five families who came to GTA but didn't get good jobs but got decent jobs outside.

1. One IT person got a job at Winnipeg (insurance co.) He was unemployed for 4 months in GTA.
2. One desi CA got job at E&Y in Edmonton , he wa underemployed in GTA for 6 months.
3. Another Desi CA got a good job in Moncton NB , he refused to move , he is now a "financial consultant" selling RESPs after 8 months unemployment.
4. Two IT guys got ***government *** job in Regina SK. They were unemployed for 8 months in GTA. They had moved to Regina 1 month prior to getting the job.

Maybe Canada still has opportunities.... But definitely not in GTA.

Do you mean that 'Oldies' (40+) are given due regard outside of GTA? Or you are talking about new immigrants in general?

Really sad story, heart wrenching ...it seems the fact that they both were in teaching played a role too. acceptance of foriegn trained teachers esp at higher levels is really tough ...

but that does not mean 70% of professional immigrants are returning back.

this is just one story which reached the press ...there are thousands of well qualified masters level graduates in india who are still unemployed or are doing clerical and menial jobs too in worse conditions...

lets now lose the perspectives and the big picture.
