Is it because they are making good money or are satisfied with quality of life or what?
Very good topic of discussion.

poor quality of Life and too much joblessness in their home countries because many of them are Masters/Graduates and came to Australia as skilled workers.A pakistani friend who was working at the bus station(he had masters in Economics/PHD from Australia) said he spent 10 lakhs on his education and got immigration as an overseas student but still could not get a job.He then did a 500 A$ course and got a job immediately as a Security Guard and was working in bus station at Sydney. His net take home was 2400 $ .Met some in train who were working as railway guards(Government Job) and their take home was 3000$ .The salary difference between a professional and clerical job is not much.
Australian Education is a big marketing propraganda. There are hundreds of universities in Australia ,many of them are pretty useless.
Australia earns approx 2 Billion $ from their education business.I personally saw students who were doing menial jobs at gas stations/shops after doing masters in IT from Australia. The situation becomes worse if you go to places like Brisbane/Queensland etc
Lastly,Economy of Canada is double of Australia and population is also double of Australia.IT has more future in Canada rather than in Australia.
Advantage of Canada over Australia ( in my view) :-
1.Canada's proximity to US/Europe.Australia is isolated
2.Universities in Canada are rated better than Australia.
3.No scholarships/Graduate Assistant Ships in Australian Universities unless you pursue Masters by research.
4.Australia 's neighbour NZ is worse off economically thn Australia.New Zealanders come to Australia to look for work.

Overal, they are similar places, with two big differences
1) Australia - Great weather
2) Canada - Chance to get in to USA
A guy from thailand I know told me he came to Canada only because of point (2), most of his friends went to the Land down under...

Hanu,
Can you give idea about the minimum expenditure in Australian dollars(per person) in terms of accommodation, grocery, and public transportation or car expenses if one lives in Sydney?
In GTA, it would be roughly $600 for a basement, $200-300 for grocery, and $100-200 for bus per month.
