Yes, Pak is out, following today's upset loss to Ireland, having already lost to WI.

India is in danger of missing out as well. So, to qualify, India has to win its next 2 matches - Bermuda & SL. God forbid, even if it rains out in one of the matches, India stand the risk of missing the super 8 round!

Even if India win, and SL beats Bangladesh, all 3 teams will be tied with equal wins. The net run rate will come into factor then, to pick the 2 teams. So, India not only has to win, but win by big margins.

I think this tournament fixture was meant to eliminate the underdogs as early as possible - just to let them play a few games with the big boys, and then see them off quickly - so that the "real" games begin with the super 8.

But the flaw here is that just one bad game for a major team, and the minnows get through - as it happened today for Pak, and potentially for India too!

Bangladesh, I can believe, but who would have thought of Ireland making to the super 8?!

It's going to be a disaster for the marketing if both Pak & Ind lose out!

This is the kind of pressure applied to the teams of both India and Pakistan and hence their failures in large tournaments. There is definitely a difference between motivation and pressure.

At least in one Indian magazine I read at most regularly, Sachin is always portrayed as God, Yes God. I doubt he himself would like it coz it cost him to perform more and hence his stress and poor performance. Such an ultra talented person is just wasted by putting enormous pressure. We all know Lara, another wonderful player underperformed due to execessive pressure applied on him but he bounced back when the board realized (to some extent atleast).

We can't always keep winning, All it matters is "Did we put the fight or just gave up"?

I have hardly heard any Post-mortem work is done in India after losing a match or tournament. It is usually followed by some effigy burning, stone pelting at players residence in place of any analysis. Though a Sport is quite related to emotions but these emotions do require strategy and strategy is usually resulted by sufficient home work and conducive environment. Hyper fans of India and Ultra hyper fans in Pakistan will never let such thing happen.

Well, quite unfortunately I am not really different when it comes to the game, coz...,

It is just a game and should be kept at that.

And yeah, results are always proportional to the effort that goes into things. Yeah, this applies to cricket too.

I think that's what's needed. The artificial elevation to "God" status for the Indian players is the work of marketing. These guys are in commercials all over, walk on fashion ramps, hang out at the trendiest bollywood events i.e. do everything but train in cricket. The whole thing stinks of blatant commercialism and there's a LOT of money being made in the process both by the players and the advertisers. The fat contracts based on super-stardom vs. performane need a jolt.

It will truly be a disaster for the world cup and the ICC if India and Pak both bow out at an early stage. The ICC will get a mouthful from advertisers no doubt.

I agree with the last post however, that this is a game and anything can happen. India aren't out yet despite that being a distinct possibility.

If India loses to SL, as JRF pointed out, there will be some stone pelting etc. But public memory is short and everything will be forgotten in couple of months. How come Bdesh won? Thx to the coach Dave Whatmore. He had trained SL before now is coaching Bdesh. Now u see the results. If Bdesh reaches the super 8 (I think they will) with India (?) and Pak out, then that's a huge accomplishment.

Disastrous play
Hi,
I agree that it is agme and anything can happen. But then Indian team has to perform their bbest..they show their best performances only on televison commercials..Have you guys seen the advt in which they become tigers to run after coca-cola bottles...

But on the field yesterday they were like goats..who could not even make a good decent score against a team like bangladesh..see otehr teams like australia and south africa, they are making 300+ in these matches...why india couldnt make a big toatl...

And for bowling so many extras-wides,no balls...it was pathetic...

May God help them in the up-coming matches...
