This with Dhoni is still better than what happened to Bob Wolmer who died of massive heart attack against the stress and anxiety to stamp his foot in Pakistan.

The team / mgmt has to sit down and analyze what we're really lacking. To date, the team has good batting line up and a decent bowling line up too. Fielding, He he, we're not trained for that coz our body can't bend.. sorry we will equalize it in our bowling and batting.

Well, well what we really lack is Chutzbaah and sadly given the current trend (over all) I doubt this could ever be restored ( had it existed before ) or boosted.

So Whose the culprit ?
Its our INTOLERANCE Do the math! you could reconcile.

Kaif demands reason for exclusion

March 05, 2007 22:35 IST

Middle-order batsman Mohammad Kaif bewildered by his omission from the Indian team on Monday said he has not been told by the authorities concerned which aspects of the game he needs to address.

\"I have not been told which areas of my game I need to improve upon,\" Kaif said in Mumbai.

The 26-year-old Uttar Pradesh player who was not a part of the team in the home series against the West Indies and Sri Lanka and later ignored for the World Cup, said he is surprised at his exclusion.

\"I don't know why I have been dropped, I got two centuries in the Ranji one-dayers but I don't want to talk about it as the team has left for the World Cup,\" added Kaif who is leading the Central Zone side in the ongoing Deodhar Trophy.

\"This is almost the same team that went to the World Cup in 2003 other than me and that sometimes hurts me,\" he said.

While considering himself lucky to be a part of the 2003 World Cup squad, Kaif vowed to make a return to the national side by performing well in domestic cricket.

\"I consider myself lucky that I was a part of the last World Cup squad and we could reach the finals. I look forward to prove myself and make a comeback after the World Cup by performing well in domestic cricket,\" added Kaif.

Luck has to favour India to make the cut

Sunday March 18 2007 22:20

PORT OF SPAIN: After their opening round humiliation against Bangladesh, team India needs a heavy dose of favour from lady luck if they are to make the cut for the super 8 stage of the cricket World Cup.

Theoretically, all is not lost yet for India, who can still make it to the elite league by finishing among the top two sides from group B.

According to the World Cup rules, top two teams from each group will qualify for the super 8 stage but with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh having already won a match each and India yet to open an account, their promotion to next level is in jeopardy.

To keep themselves afloat, the immediate assignment before Rahul Dravid's men is to win against Bermuda with a heavy margin on Monday and improve their run rate.

And even if India manage to do that, they will have to get past the biggest hurdle on March 23 when they meet Sri Lanka and again a mere win here won't suffice.

Sri Lanka, the other title contender in group B, have already made their intentions clear with a 243-run pounding of Bermuda and that means mere win won't do it for India if it comes to net run rate.

Assuming India achieve even that, the passage to super 8 is still not assured and then it would hinge on the outcome of the Bangladesh-Bermuda match on March 25.

In that match, India would clearly be rooting for the American outfit, hoping them to tame the Bangla tigers even though that would need another upset.

And to talk about the worst case, a defeat on Monday against Bermuda or the Lankans on March 23 would be the end of all roads for the men in blue.

On the other hand, whoever wins the March 21 match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will book their super 8 berth.

If the point tally fails to settle the issue, net run rate would decide the fate if teams are locked in a tie.

A team's net run rate is calculated by deducting from the average runs per over scored by that side throughout the relevant portion of the competition, the average runs per over scored against that team throughout the relevant portion of the competition.

If everything goes according to India's liking, still Bangladesh would enjoy an enviable situation as they would have a clear idea about what they need when they meet Bermuda on March 25.

And despite all calculations and number-crunching, rained out matches or tied ties can turn every equation upside down.

At this stage, it is clear that mere performance won't suffice anymore and team India, far from being the maker of its own destiny, is at the complete mercy of lady luck in this World Cup.

Cricket fans vandalise Dhoni's house

Sunday March 18 2007 21:33

RANCHI: Enraged over the poor performance of Indian teams star wicketkeeper-batsman Mahindra Singh Dhoni in the first match in World Cup, cricket fanatics on Sunday vandalisd his under-construction house and damaged its boundary wall in the State capital here.

Dhoni returned to the pavillion without making any run against Bangladesh team.

About fifty youths assembled near the construction site of Dhoni's house, shouted slogans against the cricketer and burnt his effigy at about 1430hrs, sources said adding that later the house was damaged.

Meanwhile, police sources said no complaint was lodged in this regard.

The piece of land was allotted to Dhoni by the erstwhile NDA government led by Arjun Munda and the Ranchi regional development had recently passed the map for the proposed house to be constructed on that plot.

I think there is a silver lining even if India gets thrown out of the competition, we can always have a mini super series between India and Pakistan in Sarjah/Dubia while the WC is going on and I bet there will be more viewership and betting there than the worldcup.

And whoever said that ICC made a mistake by includin minnows in the WC should be eating thier words...

(Or) the other option would be for both Indian and Pakistani team reach Pearson and apply for Asylum under refugee category. Then they can spend their 1095 days in Canada and by the time they obtain their Canadian Citizenship it will be March 2011 right in time for the WC 2011.

They could always represent Canada in the 2011 WC !.

May be Tendulya can start his restaurants in TO; while Saurav Da can do his restaurant business in BC. Dhoni can always get his special hair cut at Square One Salon's. The Othappams and Masala Dosas can find labour jobs in industrial estate(s) in GTA.

I sincerely wish the Indian team should be thrashed by Bermuda and that will be the icing on the cake. This is the best chance for Murali to seal the deal for once and all.

Michael Jordan was a performer! Look at his track record. The endorsements did not become detrimental to his performance.

Look at Beckham now. Most of the hype around him has died down, his endorsement value is nowhere close to where it used to be. But that won't happen in India.

Dhoni, Kaif, Tendulkar can make trillions of dollars for all I care if they're performing on the field. Then that's money well earned. My peeve is the artificial elevation to super-star status without any super-star performances.

You're right about the existence of such image but you know, this is not created by the public, it is the media who create such value for their own sake. Every other company wants to add value to the Dhoni first, use him in commercial and milk it. I was initially under impression such things happen in third world alone. Huh! U.S is not really lagging. People are still crazy to buy Britney's hair after she shaved it to bald. And the Paris Hilton and Olsen sisters (Yikes), who creates and nurture them. MEDIA. Got a feeling I am moving on a tangent about the media.

Let us wish good luck to our team who for sure never enjoyed what they have done in the last match and they've bounced back in the past. I feel pity for the look they have in their face now.

I am sure many of us might have played friendly matches between our street folks back home, in school, college etc., was there tolerance if you ever wait for a over or more before you play offensive shots, was there tolerance if you drop a catch, was there tolerance if you do not get the rhythm in bowling in first over. Hell No! you're immediately bashed / cursed by your team, the same attitude pitches in even in international, soon cricket will be lined up with hockey in India. This is one another reason we can't do well in soccer too.

Well, it is still a surprise that we've got bastman like Dravid etc., after all this kind of expectations.
