My brother in law was working for Carrier when he was laid off in 2003. His annual at that time (3 yrs ago) was 35 lacs!

I have got two nephews in Delhi, both lawyers with specializations done in UK and US, but under 3 years of experience, making more than 50k pm!

Really???

I can show you many guys who have more than 6 yrs experience living in Canada, both locals and immigrants, who DO NOT MAKE 70K!

Even in my company, which is a Brand Name company in mutual fund industry has very few who would be earning more than that - and our Toronto staff exceeds 300 in number.

Fido was speaking only about IT professionals, though the OP might have been speaking of other non - IT related professions. There are only few IT professionals in Canada being unemployed or under employed. The majority of IT personnel are employed at a salary of atleast 60K and that was what Fido was referring to.
This is my understanding.

Fido,
As I menitoned earlier, IT jobs are more secure in India as compared to US/Canada. Just take the example of Nortel. Only 6 yrs back they were so out of control. Desis working there I know were highly arrogant. They used to say that they could retire in Nortel. Now see where Nortel is. Those desis I know were kicked out and worse they were asking me to find them a job in the federal govt. Making the story short, 10 L in India is far better than 70k in Canada any time. Also note that those who make 10 L get good perks too. And with the money they save, they invest in real estate, stocks, etc. So more disposable income.

TK,dont start abt ME. You are making me jealous.

Ek Jactly :) ,

Yes I was referring to IT folks though not have been as per the OP. Since I am in IT I am trying to iron it out whether getting INR 10 lacs is in any way better than getting CAD 70 K . Of course in India close to a lac a month means a lot more relative value ..I observed that recently in Bangalore ... but we can live a life here and save and invest in India an amount what we would have earne there ............. but thats a different point altogether and certainly wasnt the original point of discussion.

In India yes , IT guys are great in demand even with less experience . And Middle East ......... hmm thats another story .. with the seord hanging permanently on your head ..those who have lived there would know what I ma referring to ;)

So do you agree that getting INR 7 lacs in India is equivalent to CAD 70 K ?? I find that hard to believe --- maybe because I have not lived enough in Canada .

there is one question i wud like to ask...anyone who likes the conditions here...stay in india...y did they apply for immigration....waiting desperately in the que....what a double standard....everyone knows that canada is one of the least corrupt country...on of my uncle had bypass surgery..his family docs told him...to get medical reports from bombay.....b4 going for operation...he said docs in known hospitals advices bypass...even if a patient can be cured by medicenes....is this not the reason enough to migrate...
