I know a family who paid $500 for a very short driveway.

Any recommendations for snow removal company in Mississauga?

On a side note, since this is our first winter in our new home, we would like to know what is involved in winterizing our home and what needs to be done.

Hi friends.
Is it necessary to also have the water main supply closed, and drain out water from the pipes to leave them empty when we are out for a month in winter?
Pls share your experiences, thanks for your valuable inputs.

This is what I do :
1. I leave water running ( dripping ) in bath tub . Any running water is prone to freezing . It also prevents the seals to dry up .
2. Leave the temp set at 16 C . It is enough to keep the house warm .
3. Set up a lamp with timer from dusk to dawn .
4. Ask friends / neighbors to pick up the post regularly .
5. Have my driveway shoveled .
6. Make sure that you drain the water from the pipe that is coming to your backyard . Leave that tap open and shut it off from inside .

Last but not least have some one visit at least once a week in your absence to make sure that the heating system or anything else has not broken down .

Why would you shut off the main water supply ,if you are leaving heat at say 15- 16 Celcius ? With Shutting main water supply ,dont u have to shut water heater too ?
How reliable are these Programmable thermostats which have hold temp feature ,is it ok to put on hold at 15 C for 3 weeks, or reprogramme the thermostat for week ?

Just ensure that you replace the batteries prior to leaving on vacation. Some thermostats will go to default temperature when the batteries fail.

I've used the Hold feature for a few weeks, and it worked fine.

In winter a humidifier is cheap to run and keep a reasonable temp contol in the house while you are away at a acceptable cost or you can do as we do and get a house sitter.
