For snow issues, follow your neighbors.

Its true and normal to panic on such issues, things look difficult when you speculate but with time all these things are managed. We are not talking about surviving in jungle. Singe moms, working moms, working and pregnant moms and snow are common situation here and life is still easy in those situations.

btw , why will you go in knee deep snow ? snow will not be on roads or walkways. for your house surroundings you can pay few dollars to a contractor for couple of months to clear up. For shopping Go in a car , there are helpers available for your kind of situation. Train your kids in advance, instruct them not to run around , hold hands all time.

Other option is to shop online and ask for home delivery for these few days.

Well, most desi people here have normal functional families,

Define "normal functional families".

Today's headline scream of a "desi" woman being arrested by RCMP for having her daughter killed. Dowry death, female foeticide or honour killing are still a reality in India. Just because a family appear "normal" outside, doesn't mean that a family or a person doesn't have personal mental/emotional issues.

And the whole "family values" morality is creating issues, whether in India or in USA.

She is just checking if she can pull this off by herself by staying in the field and looking for experiences for the help rather leaving the place or calling her husband.

What does this have to do with anything? Kudos the posters who rightfully called brown_bear out for making assumptions about the original posters situation. The homophobia is equally unnecessary. The fact gay parenting is legal has nothing to do with anything she asked about. Gay parents aren't necessarily single parents. If you're so upset with the moral quality of Canadians you may have more company in the States, but the crowd spewing the most hate toward single mothers and homosexuals is probably not gonna love newcomers.

To the original poster - condos usually include snow shoveling. Some townhomes are run as condos, but not all. Most multi-unit apartment buildings will handle snow shoveling but my understanding is that in Calgary there are more single family homes for rent than large apartment buildings. There are definitely companies you could hire to take care of the snow. In Toronto they tend to be expensive, but you could arrange to have a highschool student or neighbour do it for less.
