This machine works perfect if snow is fresh. More the time elapsed makes the snow heavier thus affecting its efficiency. Throwing range needs to be considered depending upon needs as per width of driveway and where (how far from edge) one wants to send the snow.

Also, I don't get why the price of this very machine is higher in the set of others with almost same power and accessories (say wood cutter). May be the standard of job it can perform?

I bought my snow blower for less than $250 at Rona. Works fine except the time I messed up the oil/fuel ratio and it gunked up the carb. Two cycle throwers are susceptible to build-up in the carb if you are not careful on the oil/fuel mix.

$1000 sounds quite a bit....

1> Look for one with Steel/Metal impellars,
2> 4 stroke with seperate engine oil is better than 2 stroke with oil gas mix.
3> Should have mult speed with forward and reverse capabilites.
4> Should have hog wheels i.e large wheels that need pressured air instead of the plastic wheels.

Optional
5> electric start

Options 1 to 4 , get sno-tec 24" from home depot for 700$ plus tax

Options 1to5 get 27" Briggs and Stanton one from Walmart for 850$ plus tax

If u are omitting the options 1 to 4 to get cheaper model then i say manual shoveling is better..

Not necessarily. I have consistently removed snow on mine as well as 3 other neighbors' (u know, the one's that were the nicest to me ;) ) with my cheapo blower in the past years. It's worked fine.

Same here too. Although mine cost $400, it's the smallest kind that you can get.

As for the op's request, Home Depot and Lowes have some on sale this coming week (Starting Oct 17) starting at $500 and up.
