.
Neither could i. But the idea of compiling a list of the books seems to be a good idea...and we could keep adding to it as we read and add what we think of the book aswell.

Hey, howcome no one is mentioning Harry Potter ?? :(

MR

It has been almost 7 or 8 yrs since I read it but what I recall was I liked the characters Naipaul interviewed to get a flavour for different sections of Indian society. Some of the stories were poignant. I guess part of it may be that it satisfied my voyeuristic instincts to delve into other peoples lives and see what makes them tick.

Great idea Loser.

Another fantastic book I read a long time ago was A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth. Don't be put off by the size of this book as it's HUGE! But the story was superb - I learnt a lot about what India went through during the post-independence, post-partition decade of the 1950's. It's not all about ploitics though, there are elements of various love stories throughout.

Vikram wrote the book over a period of 10 years! Hence the length of it I guess. Well worth the read though. :)

My "super-swamped" streak continues into this week. But this is a good idea for sure, I'll compile a list and from this post and make a sticky when I find time.

OTOH, if someone has time and can volunteer to compile a list and PM it to me...I'll create a sticky and keep editing to update the list anytime a new book gets mention. If you can find the time to do this, it would be great if you could send me the data in the following columns...
