Time

Most traditional publishing houses work on a production cycle that can last over a year. At Monsoon Books, we can have your book completed and ready to ship in as little as ten business days depending on the volume you require.

Full Control

A published book is as individual as its author, and self-publishing gives you complete control of how your book will look once it is published. Monsoon Books will work with you personally to ensure that all decisions are yours alone - from editing, proofreading and book design - and that your book is published exactly as how you would want it.

Profit

Book Publishing is a $1.7 billion enterprise in Canada. Consider this: a traditional publisher that finances the publishing of a new manuscript may offer as little as 5% to 15% royalty to a new author. But as a self-published author who will handle your own promotion and sales, you get to keep 100% of the profits made from the sale of your book. And if your book sells successfully, your high profit margin will give you the upper hand in negotiations with other traditional publishers who may come calling!

Your Rights

A traditional publishing house usually owns all rights to a book. That means you, the author, would not be able to print additional copies without the written consent of the publisher or unless you purchased those rights back. Why sell yourself short to let a publisher own and control what you have created? As a self-published author, you own all rights to your book and Monsoon Books can help you print (and reprint) as little as 10 copies or as many as 1000 copies on demand.

The Cost of Production in a Niche Market

The average print run for a work of first-time fiction in Canada is 1,500 compared to 10,000 in the United States, making the unit cost per Canadian book much higher. Traditional publishers usually do a large press run that is more cost-effective, and to fill the demand of a mass market. But if your book caters to a special niche market, or if your book is targeted to a smaller audience, self-publishing will enable you to print a small quantity of books to test the market. Export of Canadian books has tripled since 1989 ? more than three times faster than Canadian film exports. If you know your audience and understand that market, there is nobody better than you who knows how many books you can sell.

Locality

Over 80% of Canadian-authored titles are published by Canadian-owned publishing firms. This means a healthy book publishing industry is essential for Canadians to be able to read Canadian stories. But books about local or regional topics are generally produced by local authors in short-run quantities, as large publishers will decline publishing these books because of limited sales potential.

Legacy

Making money is not the only reason to publish. Sharing what you have learned, helping others by making your book readily available, or leaving a legacy are other admirable motives. A book is an expression of yourself and is as individual as you are. Monsoon Books can help you capture those intimate reflections with permanence.

I had a look at your website, it's great! I was wondering if you'd be interested in publishing poems too....?

Very bright idea !!!

Congratulations and All the very best.

I have a friend in India, who is a Heomeopathic doctor and she has written a very good book on herbal plants & medications. I would check with her, if she intends to publish her book in Canada.

By the way, I realise that you are from Milton, ON. I suppose it's great town and not too far away from Mississauga (where I live). I would like to visit your town once. Hope to see you.

tc

Hello,

Absolutely.
Poems are a great way to express yourself.

Gather up a collection of poems and together we can self-publish them.

Let me know if you need help.
