Hi!
I am a professional and i am overweight. I generally spend 10-12 hours sitting in front of the computer. I am 170 cms but around 200 Lbs.. I am also a non-vegetarian. Once i come home, i am very hungry and eat lots of Rice and meat and that too just before sleeping. I have no time for excersice due to my office work 6 or 7 days a week.
Can our CD members tell me and the forum as to how i can reduce my weight despite my schedule and work.
Thanks in advance.
TK

I'm in no way a medical professional, but seems like your eating habits are not that great. From what I've heard is eat a light dinner and give around 2-3 hours between your dinner and the time you go to bed.

There was a very good article on reducing weight in last weeks Metro (Wed, Feb 8th). I might have the paper around, PM me and I can fax the article to you.

One of the things I remember from that article is - If you want to loose weight eat more that 3 times a day, Yes that's true, eat small quantities. Don't eat too much at a time.

Skipping meals again is bad for your health. If you think by skipping meal you'll loose weight, you're mistaken.
My 2 cents.....

I'd agree with the points by the above poster.

Tapering out your meals with breakfast as the heaviest and dinner the lightest.

Eating smaller portions more frequently (e.g every 3 hrs...fruits, nuts etc). Do not allow the body to go hungry...and if you starve the body during the day, theres a tendency to gorge at dinner...after which the body is idle(sleep)...not good.

Replacing the items like white bread/rice with the brown varieties of the same.

Exercise :)

Frankly, i would stay away from any 'research' articles on health and wellness being posted in newspapers.. they are nothing short of advertisement for a vested group...every now and then you find an article which contradicts an article from some other newspaper. Please rely more on advice from your grandmother :D .

Effect of any diet on your health and finess cannot be judged from a small sample test conducted on a few clients in a lab for a few years. It takes years (generations) of experience to note the long term effects.

I agree with sudesingh and jake3d. Cutting on your meals is not good.

I am no expert on this topic, but I've noticed following things helps
. Use of public transport. You force yourself to some physical activities. If you cannot, and have to use car, avoid using the nearest parking spot. Yes, this eats up 5-7 additonal mins.
. Take a 20 mins walk during lunch hour.
. Once in a while use stairs for few floors and then take the elevator.

Can't think of more ... I'm sure CD's can append to this list.

Just 2 days back there was a programme on CNN regarding losing weight and keeping it off, they interviewed some ppl who had lost weight and manged to keep it off for yrs and continuing so. Introducing a healthier lifestyle is something we all want, and the key lies in balancing eating with exercising...(which is definately easier said than done!!)changing lifestyle habits and intorducing more greens in your diet works wonders and makes u feel full sooner and the best part is u dont feel lethargic and heavy as u would after a big meal.

here are the few points they mentioned in the programme..

1: Introduce some activities like taking the stairs or parking the car farther away so u can walk more, just little activieties spread throuh out the day .If u manage 5mins of excersise here and there...it'll end of up atleast 15-20 mins just like that and keeps u active

2: Do not deny yourself... cut portions, if you cant live without icecream, have it ,but make sure u work it off. once u get into a habit , it'll be easier to control what u eat. and remember its not about losing just 20 pounds... u want to make choices that last a lifetime.

3: Dont lose heart if u dont see the scales moving in the right direction immediately, it takes time and constant effort,,,slowly but surely u are going to get there.

4: Dont just sit there.....get moving...:)

TK,
All the suggestion given above are per-se-excellence.I would like to add just one thing and that's the root cause of getting overweight

"yes the hungry part" can't avoid it :(

you can:p

Have you heard of water therapy.I have been doing it for last 10 years. The results ...If probably you could see me:D

Try to drink 1.5 lts(4 large glass)clear and clean water in the morning before brushing your teeth. Difficult.. yes I know but for the start try drinking 2 glass for 5 days then increase to 3 glass for 5 days.. so on and so forth.Don't eat anything 45 mins. before and after you drink this water. This not only clean your system but also reduces your hunger dramatically. There are 15 more diseases which are also taken care of.

Also drink a glass of water every 2 hrs for the rest of the day.Do it ,practice it, and see the difference.

(NB: If you feel little uneasy or stressed out, relax ! its very common in the initial days.)
