Hi!
I am a professional and i am overweight. I generally spend 10-12 hours sitting in front of the computer. I am 170 cms but around 200 Lbs.. I am also a non-vegetarian. Once i come home, i am very hungry and eat lots of Rice and meat and that too just before sleeping. I have no time for excersice due to my office work 6 or 7 days a week.
Can our CD members tell me and the forum as to how i can reduce my weight despite my schedule and work.
Thanks in advance.
TK

Try the following simple things.

1) Keep a water bottle "( preferably) 1 litre on your desk. Fill it in the morning. Keep drinking water as you are working. Aim to finish one bottle before lunch and one after lunch. Drinking water will not make you feel very hungry.

2) Since you work very long hours, try to get a walk in the afternoon at lunch time.

3) Agree with other that breakfast should be heavy to carry you thru the day and dinner should be light. Try to skip carb i.e. rice, chapati, potatos if you can at dinner. I know it is very difficult for South East Asians to skip carb as we are brought up eating carbs for all the 3 meals. Try to reduce it gradually.

4) Donot eat if you are full. Donot eat if you donot feel hungry. However, this does not mean skip the meals. Try to eat 3 meals and two snacks. Chosse snacks very carefully. Try nuts, low fat cheese as snacks.

5) Try to reduce carb though not totally. Stick to your minimum daily intake for your weight and level of exercise. You can find these on one american govt. website. link
http://www.mypyramid.gov/
Input the info required and it will calculate your minimum intake of carbs, proteins, fats etc.

6) Learn about the portion sizes. What constitutes portion sizes. you will be surprized that any bread used for sandwich at McDonalds, Subway etc gives to 4 servings of Carbs and can be as high as 75 % of your daily minimum carb intake.

One thing you can do is take a look at the food choices you are making. Do you eat a lot of red meat? (Beef, pork, lamb) - make substitutions such as : chicken, turkey and fish.

Skip deepfried food as much as possible. go for salads instead of fries, or baked potatoes etc.

What is your regular diet? take out or home made?
Do you drink a lot of pop? coffee? alcohol?

Contrary to popular belief being vegetarian doesnt make one automatically healthier :) Nor are take out foods bad..its just in the choices you make.

Of course its easier to give advice then take one's own.... :(

You seem to have already gotten a lot of advice but I'll add a few points:

Good breakfast - oats wold be best. Cereals are mostly simple carbs, i.e. as bad as white rice. Try 2% or skim milk, definitely not full fat milk.
No/very little rice at dinner - I know it can be very difficult for us south indians but I got around to doing this. Instead I sometimes have a bowl of dal, some chickens and veggies.
Try soaking some channa and make some kind of chaat - mixing onions, tomatoes, chilli etc.
Try eating fruits instead of juice - more fiber and less sugar intake. Even those 'no added sugars' juices naturally contain sugar.

Of course, even 30 mins of exercise 3x a week would be hugely beneficial but I assume that is too time consuming for you now.

Good luck! :)

exercise & diet together is the best way to reduce weight.

You would have to take out time to do exercise. Try & incorporate some walking in your routine.

I know it is difficult but you can try out different times when you exercise. Not necessary to exercise at the same time everyday.

rgds.

Hi, This is a very useful thread. I would just like to add that few things

-- sometimes we also gain weight if our system is not clean that makes your metabolism slow. There are very nice cleansing products available in Pharma these days that flush the toxins from ones body thus increasing energy burning capacity. Trifala (2-3 pinch everyday) with warm water for 10-12 days can also do the cleansing. Just a word of caution that overdoing trifala or any cleaning product may make you dependent on it.
-- You should visit you family doctor and check for any deficiencies. Deficiency of Vitamin B12 also is factor in this problem. Taking B12 helps a lot in controlling weight gain.
-- Please avoid Rice before bed. Limit Rice to thrice a week in measured portions. One fist size is one portion.
-- Donot leave your home with empty stomach in the morning. Fit a wholesome breakfast in your schedule that will help you from feeling starved all day.
-- You can freeze whole wheat chapatis in refrigrator and just use it instead of Rice. Being rice lover, this will be difficult initially but in no time u will get used to it. Rotis are a lot of work when you are back from work and are hungry so frozen rotis are gud option.
-- Increase your fibre intake that flushes the unnecssary toxins from the system.
-- 4-5 glasses of water before brushing your teath is excellent option specially if water is stored in a bronze(tamba) container.
-- One of my coworker lost 10-15 lbs in 2 mnths by using stairs upto 18 floors in the lunch and coming down. He was counting his calories too. Soon many people joined him in his stairs routine.

Hope this helps....

Cheers!

RR
