Hi Canadian Desi's,
I've been advised by my Doctor to see a Nutritionist for better manage my eating behavior and nutrient intake, that might help me reduce any risks of diabetes / heart attack. I'm little overweight and have history of Diabetes. Now my situation is precautionary and preventive. My question is has anybody (desi) have contacted any nutritionist in the past? If yes, were they desi (or had knowledge about Indian food?) Should I look for a desi Nutritionist? Or it does not matter? Please share your experience, I'm 30, living in Ottawa and primarily eat Indian food.
Thanks a lot for your time and guidance,
Sid
is the nutritionist covered by Ohip / Extended health coverage (I have both) and who should recommend ? Can it be a walk in doctor or does it have to be a family doctor?
I am also suffering from some of the issues mentioned by you and would like to see a nutritionist. Desi would be better as they can suggest suitable foods with a desi background in mind. There was a doctor whom I saw 2 years back in mississauga who was a self proclaimed nutritionist and she told me to take certain foods (English foods) most of which I could not follow or which was what I hated (like salads etc...)
I live just outside the GTA region.
Peace

Thanks Tamilkuravan,
Yes, I've been refered by my family Doc. and I also have extended coverage. My question more precisly is does it matter if the Nutrionist has not an extensive knowledge of what we (desis) eat? Or it does not matter- or perhaps their training may have included different genre of food.
Any body who has experience this- seen a Nutritionist or is a Nutritionist or a has a friend....Please reply!
Thanks a lot for your reply and time.
Sid
