I am agreed with Delhite and rajcanada too.
first of all, come with positive thinking...please avoid to contact with negative people.
When you are changing one State to another State in India than is hard to settle down on initial stage too, but now you are moving to new country, new people, new culture etc... It is difficult to settle down but NOT impossible at all.
Most of the immigrants in Canada had been faced same situation like yours and after a while they settled down very well and doing well.
I must say..."GHAR GHAR KI KAHANI HAI...BOSS.."
when you are coming in contact with some negative people on their life than please avoid to contact with them as much you can, because some people have tendency to pull your legs down and lead you towards their Failure side.
regarding Job:
to get a job in automobile industry is not hard and not easy too, to get a job as a Field Engineer you should know the Bilingual language (French and English) and good experience...because most of the manufacturers first requirement is language and ready for extensive traveling in this job.
Honda, Toyota and other companies has a policy to reduce the cost and normally they give you a lots of dealers to cover most of the issues.
to get a job in Dealership as a Service Advisor or Service Manager....dealership requirements is Canadian Experience on the same field.
General observation, in your resume please do not put extra high profile education and experience.. as per my opinion first you need to put your first leg on the ground with basic job and once you have a little experience and understanding of the job than you have a lots of opportunity to jump on for higher category job.
ALL THE BEST AND WARM WELCOME TO BEAUTIFUL CANADA :-)
P.S. : keep in mind CD has a lots of information and lots of intelligent people too....most of the CD's are always ready to help each others...
perhaps that's why CD website is most popular among desi's...
Regards

Employment agencies like Kelly et al are just crooks.
They take a HUGE cut from your salary..if possible get a job directly from the company as opposed to these recruiting firms and temping agencies like Kelly , Drake, Randstand, Aplleone etc.
Have you been provieded accomodation by your wife's employer ?
1.Cell Phone :
Go fro WinD Mobile . They are cheaper. Both their voice plan and data plan. Go for Pay Before as opposed to Pay After to avoid surprise charges. for $ 35 month you will get unlimited calling and data plan.
Bell, Rogers,Telus are crooks !
2.Groceries :
Food Basics , No Frills , Freshco or Wal-Mart.
3. Department Store : Pots, Pans, Clothes, Shoes, Jackets, Chairs, Tables etc
Wal-Mart
4. Dollarama for cheap goods required in household. DOLLARAMA
5. Coffee :
Only Tim HortonsNo Starbucks ..too expensive.
6. Public Transit : TTC monthly pass for $ 140/month ..both bus and train ( subway aka Metro ) included.
7. Eating Out : Cheap Indian and Chinese buffets. samosas 3 for $ 1.00. White people food and restaurants NOT included in the above.
8. The Beer Store for beer and LCBO for wine. You get 24 bottles of beer for about $ 30 at The Beer Store, depending on yhe brand you go for. And 1 litre bottle of wine for $ 10 at LCBO.
Ofcourse the above is only if you want to live a cheap DESI life and 90 % of desis do that..if you want to live a GORA life and spend money , Other options available like bars, clubs, expensive shopping malls, restaurants, cars, stores.
I am familiar with BOTH the Goras and Desis..and I have lived both the lives
Desis have a CASH mentality and Savings mentality ..Goras have a CREDIT mentality and Spending mentality.
Goras live for today and don't leave anything behind for kids and family..Desis live for tomorrow and want to leave something for their kids and family.
Desis mostly live poor and die rich..most of them are house rich and cash poor.
Goras are good at using credit, loans, leverage etc..they don't care about bankruptcy etc either.
Is your wife getting paid in Canadian dollars in Canada ? ..or is she getting some kind of allowance over here and her Indian salary is going to be deposited in Rs. In India ?
If you let us know how much she is going to get paid GROSS , I can tell you how much she is going to get in her hand NET.
Its Rude to ask someone's salary , weight , height , age etc and other personal questions over here..but desis have NO manners and etiquette and are very RUDE and Nosy people , so they will ask questions like that here and in India.
She will be paying Federal Income Tax , Provincilal Income Tax ( Ontario ), Employment Insurance (EI) and Canada Pension Plan ( CPP ) from her pay.
If she has a dental , drug and eye care plan from her company , she will be paying for that too from her salary.
OHIP is FREE healthcare is FREE only 3 months after landing , maybe you want to take visitor medical travel insurance for these 3 months ..most desis are cheap and don't bother and take a chance..but if something happens they will be financially wiped out.
Can you start by taking up Automotive technician job to get a foothold? If you are already technically sound, just go through some short term diploma/certificates from a Public community colleges in GTA. Take it as an investment. It will yield handsome results. Believe me.
Another option is Car Salesmanship. If you're good at Sales, have an adaptable and above average communication skills, as well as can learn to roll up your 'R's, this is a perfect job for you to start with.
As you might know more than me, Automotive is a vast field. Go through job profiles and listings on the following job sites and if you have knowledge in the specific domains, tailor (but, don't fake) your resume accordingly:
craigslist.ca
workopolis.ca
jobbank.gc.ca
monster.ca
indeed.ca
Silver lining is that your wife has a ready employment. If you both have a clear understanding among each other, you will do extremely decent within an year.
Just brush up your soft skills (presentation, communication), dressing style, technical training, and academic/professional (in that order, please). You are then good to go.
Another advise I often impart to the newcomers. Don't restrict to the GTA market. I know, your wife will be employed within GTA, but if you're able to find any related job someplace else within a day's or hours commute, just move. Initially, it will be hard to live a bit separately, but if you have a job with Canadian experience, within 6 months or an year you can always start applying within Toronto. You will then have a greater chances to excel. In other words, just keep your options open and flexible. You have 'Go' trains at your disposal.
Also, try to obtain the driving license as soon as you land. Should be the first in your list. A valid driving license is the primary requirement for an Automotive job (makes sense, right?).
Welcome to Canada.
Edit:
Create a Professional profile on LinkedIn, per Canadian standards. Ask for recommendations from your Managers in your past jobs, publish, and make the profile public. Connect to the professionals/recruiters within the Automotive industry, and if possible and considering you are a 'go-getter' arrange for some informational interviews. Look up on Google what they are and how well to approach it.
Another good resource is 'Meetup.com'. Here you can casually meet up like minded Professionals in your field. Join some related groups; and which will open quite a decent networking opportunities for you.
Compose a list of all Dealerships in GTA, cover one area each day. Drop-in and meet with the Dealership Manager. Don't forget to wear a Professional/office attire(Summer Suit, that is). I know it's a pain, but well worth it. You never know.
So, whosoever you meet in a regular course of the day, do not forget and hesitate to politely (don't be pushy) let them know that you're looking for a job in the Automotive sector. Everyone is the job lead. Unless you don't tell, people don't know.
Get some Business Cards printed with your contact information on it - Name, phone no., email address. Should be simple, not flashy. Don't include your home address on it. Give it out to the job leads, and not disseminate to the random people. Identity theft is real.
