Agreed. What I'll add though is it is a two-dimensional problem. Politicians basically represent the psyche of the population since they are a product of the same. We basically get what we deserve. The change required in India will never be initiated by politicians (or so called leaders), it will have to come from the public as a grassroots effort. Pretty lofty to ask politicians (that are the same breed worldwide) to put country first when most people voting them to power don't.
You're much more optimistic than the Prime Minister and Finance Minister of India..
I see that emotion is involved here more than rationale..
If the rupee value and stock markets tanks another 15-20%, you would see the exodus of foreign investment which would further derail the exchange rate that would push all the import cost (India does import a lot, all the local trandespersons are importing their tool from china than buying a local) high...

US and China are like two drunks leaning on each other to prevent the other from falling. US may be on a long deflationary trend like Japan.
If the USD collapses(or takes major hits), there will be a global domino effect. Nobody will be spared. It is only a question of who will fall the hardest on their backside.
Eventually life will go on like it does in Iceland, post financial collapse. Certain industries might take a very drastic hit.

Murthy thought that most of the country's current infrastructure isn't a breeding ground for fresh ideas, for creating new knowledge or for ground-breaking research. "Doing a fair job in just transmission of knowledge, as our IITs and many other prestigious higher education institutions have done, is not sufficient for our national development. Nor does it suffice to create professional schools that train students in management or law."

This is the same point I kept repeating again and again, our environment doesn't support such inventions but the same students when they move to USA, they excel and have invented much..
Our environment, values we instill and focus quality severely hampers what could establish a class of achievement.
