And yes, there's a reason why a lot of us are in Canada.
Majority are just counting days/years, so they can go back to India & retire peacefully..
Why count days / years till retirement? Opportunities to secure a career and earn good money in India is great and life appears to be great based on several views. Why not move now and live peacefully in India...and then retire peacefully as well?
Wouldn't you folks that crave for that day be much happier by doing it now (say in the next few months to allow for smooth transition)? After all, couple of people from this forum have done it and they seem content now than before.
I just don't get the situation where people seem to choose to be discontent and live in Canada (worrying about the collapse of economy, joblessness, authoritarianism, CAD, USD, USA, culture, housing prices, healthcare, education, etc, etc, etc) when they know prospects are hugely better in India in every respect and is bound only to get better?

K lunch time ... some thing to add further ...
Hey what are we arguing here ...
a. Is India a rising economic power ( Y/N )
b. What is a super power ?
c. Is internal equilibrium necessary for being a uper power (Y/N)
d. Was USSR a super power OR how could USSR be a super power for 50 years ??
e. Is China an emerging super power ?
Mind you Im not talking about happiness and brother hood of man and liberty and other things which are intangible for economic growth & being a super power .....
Why call USSR a bully when US does the same thing ?? unless you wish to have a bias ....?
Now for some facts from wikipedia apart from analogies and articulations as posed by BL :

A superpower is a state with a dominant position in the international system which has the ability to influence events and its own interests and project power on a worldwide scale to protect those interests. A superpower is traditionally considered to be a step higher than a great power.
It was a term first applied in 1944 to the British Empire, the Soviet Union and the United States of America. Following World War II, as the British Empire transformed itself into the Commonwealth and its territories became independent, the Soviet Union and the United States generally came to be regarded as the only two superpowers, and confronted each other in the Cold War.
After the Cold War, only the United States appeared to fulfill the criteria to be considered a world superpower.[2] The term second superpower has also been applied by scholars to the possibility that China will emerge as a superpower on par with the United States.[3][4][5] Brazil, the European Union, and India are thought to have the potential of achieving superpower status within the 21st century[6]

I think BL has quoted over and over again that unless a country gives feedom and liberty and happiness to its citizens it can not become a super power ....
And I maintain that those points have little to do with the term 'super power' which means a country to have an International edge militarily & / or economically ...
As such the USSR has remained a super power and influenced the world's history for 50 years and China is reaching there ......
India will continue to rise economically and will propel economic growth ......
What happens internally in these countries have less bearing on their becoming super powers / economic powers .....
And once China attains the status it shall counter US's bullying as military equilibrium will be maintained .... as it was in the past .

Only a fool can term China & India's economic growth as being a spurt .... Look around and let me know how many made in Canada or Made in the US proucts you see in the world's aisles as opposed to ' Made in China' or in terms of human exports ... You can't stop it ... they have the resource advantage .
US still is no.1 and might continue to be so ... but that cannot stop others to rise in front of it so as to be on a negotiating 'super power' platform ....

Well, in my first post itself, I said India's story is not over. But the sustained growth/global leader status is a pipedream given the current ground reality. I expect the ride to be bumpy and the trajectory is not clear, it can go either way. That said, I do hope the growth stays positive.
I view "it'll take time" as a convenient escape from the hard/risky task of making concrete predictions. You don't have to make them over months. Make them over a couple of years, that's a long time in this day and age.

You are not bound to take my predictions about US dollar. This is my vision.
Thanks for acknowledging that. No hard feelings, but for global stability - I hope your vision does not come true. A weak America will not bode well for India because it basically means China will have more ammo. to bully it.
