In would nt like to go into a debate on this as these observations are more subjective . However I would like to clarify based on my observations :

Better System : I have found Trains , Buses , Subs to be operating on time .... Better Libraries and other Public Organizations which function quite efficiently .Better road and Traffic systems . Better Banking and other essential services which I believe consitute a better system . Coupled with better judiciary and medical system which may be a result of less population but results in greater effectiveness.

Less Indianness : You dont get a Diwali / Holi feeling while in Canada . These are just 'another day' whereas in India the whole society set of days revolve around these , just like here it happens on Christmas . The less you get of these 'cultural observations' farther away from Indian culture you go.

Better Morality : I have found that people in Canada / West adhere to moral standards more than they do in India . I can never conceive of a Bus Driver / Train Collector accepting bribes .Even professionally people are more honest and upright.

Law and Order : No comparisions at all. You cant afford to leave your cars on streets as people generally do here . No grills on windows especially on ground floors is unheard of in India .

Quality of Life : Here in terms of days of salary a person canvery quickly afford a car , flat, house whatever . And the system helps in providing what he cannot afford where in India an average salaried professional just struggles with his life until he does shady transactions.

Indianness : Here you have to learn abt Indian culture .In India you get it by default and live in it . No more road side corns , chola bhaturas , dosas for you . No more those easily available sweet shops for you . No more festivals and other celebrations for you . Lead an Indian culture insulated life - more or less.

Climate : I didnt know what gray skies can do to ones mood till I landed here ... apparently I had not known spate of continuous days of gray skies ... Here people remark when a sunny bright day comes ... How about coming from places where 90% days are bright and sunny .

Vegetarianism : You have to search in restaurants to find vegetarian dishes --- gets more difficult when u r out of major cities . In India its just around the corner and accepted as a way of life . You have to give up your habit of binging on that frequent dosa/ idli or chola bhatura or chat which is so commonly avilable in India and to which you have grown with .
Sometimes you find only salads here on the menu for veggie sake.

Cultural differences - I need another thread for that .... What is wrong for once culture becomes right for another ... thats the basis behind the omnipresent East West divide . Eg : Divorces are uncommon in India (take whole and not just metros) -- Here divorces and remarriages are a way of life as much is pre and extra marital sex something which was taboo in our culture . One DPS case became news in India whereas here - nobody would bat an eyelid .

Not relevant. One is as Indian or Canadian as one feels. One can come here at 21 and at 60 still be here and say that they are Indian. Vice versa one can stay here for 3 years or less and say one is Canadian. Both people would be right. Like I said its irrelevant , are you are trying to sideline her views by introducing this angle?

When you dont know when an Indian festival is falling on ... how can you be an indian ??

And if you remember all Indian festivals and despite your wishes are not allowed by the environment to celebrate them then obviously you are in a wrong place .....

So knowledge of festivals decide who is an indian.? And is there a requirement about northern or southern festivals? If someone comes to Canada from kerala and does not know what Baisakhi is ..is he/she not an indian?

Anyway...the topic Canada vs India has been done to death...here are some links

Once Fido leapt into this discussion, I said to myself :
"
J3D will barge in and drag this to a meaningless discussion. When he does that i will use my "Bharmasutra" for the day to announce it to the forum/ thread
"

He did it exactly as i had thought.

I fail to understand why J3D has a tendency of digressing meaninglessly , taking threads into unknown terriotery and then mis arguing . I mean .. this hasnt happened the first time and I am sure this wont be the last .....

I do not have the whole day for misarguing / counter arguing un objectively ..... however I am open to productive discussion on this thread as well as others and to some posts I do not find will result in the same I prefer to say -- Pass !!

But to the bigger audience the question still remains open - Canada or India ??

Lets revive some dead horses for those who are interested . For others --well they are free to say --pass !
