Indians with PIO card or Dual Citizenship are not required to have visa to enter India, I consider this facility as bonus. In Canada PIO card will cost you C$475.00.
Main benefit of dual citizenship is that you will be considered as NRI ( Non Resident Indian). Being an NRI you are allowed to buy or sell property ( not farm land), run your own business, maintain bank accounts in India, invest in the stock market, etc. These are the few advantages (out of many) of having dual Citizenship. Where as a Canadian citizen (even with PIO) card is not allowed to have these facilities except maintaining bank account and investment in the stock market.
Well Chor pe mor technically you must submit your passport to the Indian High Commission for cancellation (it will be returned to you after cancellation) but it is not mandatory till you apply the visit visa for India.
Even if you keep your Indian passport with you and travel to India with that you won’t be able to come back from India on same passport as Canadian Immigration department will “invalidate” your immigrant visa once you get your Canadian Citizenship.

Come to think of it you can go to India and return to Canada on your Indian Passport after you have obtained Canadian citizenship/passport... Let me explain...
1. You enter India using your Indian Passport. No problems there.
2. When returning to Canada , do not fly direct , have a stopover at a VISA FREE country for Indians. I think HK is one. Fly out of India on your Indian passport , destination HK.
3. Use your Canadian Passport to fly from HK to Toronto.
So you will need to split your air ticket....
1 Roundtrip from Toronto to HK and 1 roundtrip from HK to India.
Well, I am sure we all will do what is legal ....
Afte submitting to Indian embassy, Do we apply for a new Indian passport.....
