I am in Canada .
I got my Canadian citizenship in 1999 .
My Indian passport expired in 2006 ..but there is NO cancellation stamp on it
I got my Canadian citizenship before May 31 , 2010 , do I still have to get a surrender certificate since there is no cancellation stamp on my expired Indian passport ? Or do I just get my Indian passport duly cancelled ( stamped cancelled ) by paying the $ 20 miscellaneous fee ( not $ 168 ) without getting a surender certificate ?
The website just says that you need not pay the $ 168 renunciation fee if you got citizenship before May 31 , 2010 ..doesn't say anything about if you still need a surrender certificate or not . It does say that you still have to get your Indian passport stamped cancelled ( expired or not )
Do they ( VFS ) just stamp the Indian passport cancelled & give it back to you over the counter ..or do they actually physically send the passport to the consulate to get it cancelled .
Has anyone here who got there Canadian citizenship before May 31 , 2010 and there Indian passport expired after Jan 1 , 2005 and there is NO cancellation stamp on the expired Indian passport ..been through this process ?
Did they just get their Indian passport stamped cancelled OR did they get bot their Indian passport stamped cancelled + Got a surender certificate ?
Hey guys.... if someone did a refugee claim to become canadian and the he wants to surrender the indian pp what is the procedure then..?
Desi's, I am in the process of applying for surrender certificate (Step1 of 2 for OCI)
The application form says
"Original Indian Passport along with one copy including 1st/last/observation pages with visa issue+entry/exit stamps"
-- Does this mean I need to take photocopy of all "NonBlank" pages?
-- Do I need to submit Canadian passport original as well? (will they just look and give it back?)
Thanks in advance
quest..
