Hey LD..congrats Glad to have found someone to answer these questions...
Paramhans.. Just to add to what LD has stated...
1.) With those scores, your son has a good option of getting admission to the USA directly. However, here is the flip side...
Suppose he gets admission to say UBC/Waterloo in Canada and Say OSU (Ohio State University) in the USA..then he should definately apply to UBC/Waterloo...It will help him in two ways
a.) He can get a Canadian degree (and if he becomes an immigrant, also a chance to apply for all sorts of NSERC scholarships...). With what you have reported, if he completes his Masters degree in Canada, and is a PR , he can apply for NSERC scholarship and with that he can then apply for a PhD in Comp Sci in the USA
b.) It will give him time to add to his citizenship application ...
2.) As for you, LD has put it succiently..you would need to check out those links...
Do let us know what you and your son decide on !

I cld not understand you very well. However an attempt to reply you. India mein Phd does not include evaluation of teching experience, therefore IIT'ites and IIM'ites who are in Phd at respective institute take teaching job in India to get evaluation for teaching and then come here to work at unviersity as professors.

I did my bachelor's from Anna University (2006 passout)in Electronics and communication engineering with aggregate of 79.82%. I 'am also part of Waran Research Foundation (www.warftindia.org) where i carried a bit of research in CAD VLSI and have two IEEE publication to my name as co-author. My gre is 1330 and toefl 260.
I got some admits in US with aid but opted for UBC for its reputation. I just hope that things go rite and I dont repent my decision.
I will be joining UBC on september 1st 2006 and reaching vancouver on aug 24th
JMD... that is really impressive..Congrats...
What US universities did you apply to ? Unless its some top notch schools in the USA, I would say you deciding to join UBC is awesome... Well done.
Your research experience at Warren Research Foundation will also count towards your work experience
Now you have two options...
1.) Stay on in UBC and finish your PhD there..You may end up getting your citizenship in the process. After that you can enter the US on a TN visa...Based on ur CV..I am guessing you will be eligible for a full admission scholarship (Tution waiver in the USA)...coupled with that you are also getting a RA...(and you can also get a TA)...which means... you figure out + u get a degree from UBC !!!
2.) Finish your Masters, get more publications and apply for a school in the USA..However, at least get your Landed Immigration by then. That way, you can apply for NSERC scholarships, which will make ur task of getting a US visa a lil bit more easier !
Good luck in ur endeavours...
Charlie and others..any help CD can provide JMD to set up base in Vancouver ?
