Interestingly,I talked to some consultants back in India(Dilip Oaks,Pune)..and sent them my resume and asked them if they could help me in the admission process in canada.They replied that the admission process in canada is too intricate and requires first class in all your 4 years of engg.....but they said they could easily place me in some u.s university,like they have placed some of my other friends.

Hi ON

I hav got an admit at McGill for M.Engg(non thesis) ptogram starting Jan'06 in Mech Engg. I will be focussing my masters on Robotics/mechatronics. Meanwhile I m also waiting for U of T for their admission decision

Hey Mightybuckzz..Congrats....Make sure you get good grades..and if possible, try and transfer your program to a Masters with thesis (and funding)...

Can you please share with us the complete application process ? Whom did you approach, what kind of SOP (statement of purpose) u wrote, etc.
It will help future students also

Thanks ON..... Yes I will try to transfer to thesis program. Not sure if its possible. Perhaps I can get some good grades and then show to profs for their approval and try get into thesis program next fall.

Well, I had earlier applied to Mcgill for Fall'05 as an international student (i was in india) but got rejected (similar to Harmeek's case). So applied again for winter'05 and got accepted (now as a PR)!! These were my application details:

Academic performance - 71% from Punjab Engg College, Chandigarh
1510/1600 score in GRE and 290/300 in TOEFL
A decent SOP ( i can mail a copy for reference)
A research project at IIT Bombay
Recommendation from IIT prof

Hey Mightybuckzz..May i suggest the following ? You may or may not do that..but if you do, it surely can help others

1.) Reformat your SOP letter..Make sure you remove all references to names/dates and if necessary all references to ur project etc.

2.) Post that reformated letter here, in this thread..You can also make some comments/suggestions as to how one should go abt writing a SOP

3.) I will also make some own comments after yours.

Most folks from India do not realize the importance of a strong SOP when applying for Universities here in North America...

I dont know what kind of folks you know but the ones I have come across had amazing SOP's. Probably a thousand times better than the local public. And I am pretty sure the number of people I knew was probably a lot more than yours
