Hi,
This post is for Careear Guidence for my Daughter who is a quite a good student in Grade 10 in Canada( IB ). She is inclined to go to US for doing Undrgraduate studies from a good university in Managemant( B. Com/BBA). I know, tution is quite high in good university in comparision to Canadian Universites. My questions are
1- Is this is a good option considering Money involved?
2- Do they give any Admission weigtage for IB students or she should switch to Ontario Board where she can score more percentage.
3- Name of Good Universities for Undergraduate Managemant Course?
4- What is the procedure for admission? Is she has to give SAT ??
All reply are welcome

MR,
I agree with you-Higher Tution does not always means Higher standars but it gives you some indication of profession/courses in demand ( Like Dentistry/Medicine which command a Higher Tution )
2- No. She is ready to settle in USA/overseas as long as she gets a good professional job
3- Most of the Managemant Degrees are regonised untill & unless you go for licensing ( Like CA /CPA which has got a diffrent requirement for different countries)

My son is in IB grade 11 and is also very keen on going to the US for BBA. We have been doing some research regarding this. SAT 1 is required by all Universities. TOEFL can be exempted at Universty's discretion, if all 4 years of High School have been completed in Canada (excluding Quebec). Some Universities also require SAT 2 in subjects related to the chosen course.
University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), Berkeley, Wharton, University of Pennsylvania, University of California are some good Universities for Business Studies. You should do some research on this. In my opinion fee is higher in US Universities but that is compensated by a higher salary later.

Goldie,
My daughter is in IB but she is streesed out due to very high level of Home Work . If she has to give SAT , why to waste time & energy in IB . Why not switch to Ontario Curriculum. ( Save Your Time & Energy for SAT/Scoring High mark in Ontario Board )
Please advice.

All top Universities in US give credit to IB. Is she wants to do the Ontario curriculum then she should also give advanced placement(AP) tests in relevant subjects. Universities in US recognise that both AP and IB have an advanced curriculum.
Don't worry about SAT till she is in end of Grade 11 or in beginning of Grade 12.
Students appearing for IB exams also get an Ontario curriculum diploma.

Hi,
I have for the past 4 years been on the pre-screening interview board for Canadian students who wish to enter Cornell University (Ivy League- and still considered top notch here though some would have us believe it is a substitute univ for IIT as Naryan Murthy's (Infosys) son did not get into IIT but was admitted to Cornell).
Let me tell you that as far as we are concerned whether IB or normal, we give equal weightage. First of all the number of IB students who apply are few compared to the normal curriculum for any univ as there are more students in the normal curriculum.
If you are in IB and score a 4 in any subject, even if not your major, Cornell will not accept you.
I know several other pre-scanners from Univ like MIT , Harvard, Yale, Columbia- they say the same thing IB has no edge over normal, so if your child is stressed in IB have the child switch to regular.
Anyway the call is yours. All students have to take the SATs and if any are extra good in any subjects like Math, they can take the Advanced Placements and get credits in univ. Many students who have done this have skipped a year of Math in Cornell provided score is in 700s
Please PM me if you have any further questions- will be glad to help.
