I got admitted at Mcgill University - PhD in Management(Specialization: Finance). I am planning to go there. I was just wondering if anyone has any idea about the status/reputation of university. I believe Mcgill is considered to be one of the best universities in Canada.

I have done my research and the professor I want to work under has showed some interest in having me as his student.

Just wanted to hear the views of some of you about it.

Thanks

Hi Jack/Ottawa_Nerd,
I too would be mailing them the application package this week.Jack, you can apply for a special student only if you are a PR/Citizen of canada. So,please let us know your status in canada.Ryerson and YorkU doesn't provide special student category...only the UoT provides this facility and this week is the last week for applyin for the sept'05 session. So,if you want to apply..send them your package.
Interestingly,I talked to some consultants back in India(Dilip Oaks,Pune)..and sent them my resume and asked them if they could help me in the admission process in canada. They replied that the admission process in canada is too intricate and requires first class in all your 4 years of engg.....but they said they could easily place me in some u.s university, like they have placed some of my other friends.
Hope that helps
Harmeek

Hi Jack,
I come from comp.sc. field..so mine field is different from yours. So,got to the graduate studies admission and the same formi.e the one used for m.s admissions is to be used to apply as a special student.
Better talk to the guys of your department in the university before sending them an application.
Thanks

mcgill is considered to be canada's best university. this is a little known fact, but at one time it was actually considered to be among the US "ivey league" schools.

there are many americans studying at McGill because it (apparently) enjoys a very good reputation in the US and is more affordable than Harvard, for instance.

From start ( registering for few courses... getting STRAIGHT A's and impressing the professor...etc.etc.etc.) to finish... that is getting a job... Will it not become a long process for a person already 40 +... not to mention same repeated difficulties in coping with day to day life.?

Setting priorities iis important ...infact the first step.

It would be better to go for short term course giving you a chance on office going job. After all you need to do so many other things in life.....safe and unsafe acts :p
All this except the last line for 40+ like jeetendra... remember? thanks for not letting this thread loose its focus. Nice and clear info.

I am sure the folks who posted here (harmeek etc.) are not 40+...The advice given to Harmeek does not apply to them ! As for safe and unsafe acts...now thats a whole new story :p
