Ok, This thread is great, but I am a little lazy in going thru it completely.

the info I am looking for is Are there any Graduate Computer Science courses Starting at any other time than the regular Aug/Sep.

Or Does one have to wait and apply for next year (fall 2006) session?

??

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.

HI Ottawa_nerd and others

I need some info regarding M.Engg(non thesis) program in canadian univs. I hav recently imigrated to canada with an undergraduate degree in mechanical engg from india and want to pursue M.Engg program at Uof T , McGill. I m not particularly interested in research thats why i m not opting for MASc(thesis). Plz tell me what r the future job prospects after doing this program? is it really worthwile doing this program regarding job prospects? and what do the univs like UofT look in applicants to consider them for admission in M.Engg program?
what r the approx student intake for this program per academic session? I am considering of applying to UofT and McGill univ this winter session.

1.) To answer your first question, read the first two pages of this thread. That question has been answered in detail.

2.) What are the prospects ? It all depends on what courses you take. The company you are applying will look at the project you do. I have no first hand knowledge abt prospects after doing a M.Engg. neither do I know abt student intake.
3.) AFAIK, harmeek has stated that UofT does not take students during winter. McGill does, however, take students during winter. You will have to contact the dept. as to whether they take students for M.Engg
4.) As you are not applying for research, you will not get funding from Profd\s. So most probably, they will look into your GRE scores (McGill) and your academic achievements (prizes, rank, marks etc.) (UofT and McGill).

Thanx ON

I hav contacted mechanical engg deptt at UofT and they say that they consider applications for January session with application deadline on 1st October. I had previously applied to MASc program at UofT and Mcgill but got rejected. However they will consider my transcripts and LOR's and i dont hav to submit them again. What I consider the main reason behind my rejection is that I didnt had any contact with any prof and there very few profs in my research area with limited funding for international students(i had applied as an internationl student then).

I hav an excellent GRE score of 1510/1600 with a decent academic percentage of 71%. Besides I hav 4 months work experience in my field. I hope this proves good enough for my admission. But i think it depends upon how many M.Engg students they take in Jan sesion and the competition present. Atleast there wont be any competition from international students.

I believe its always better to do a M.Engg from good univs like UofT rather than doing a community college course with limited prospects. What do u say O_N?

Screw u dude !! 1510/1600 is a shit a$$ score... Why dont u apply to US universities ? Do you want to give that idea a thought ?
I would also suggest a couple of things !
1.) reapply for MASc at McGill and UBC.. They both require the GRE scores...and with ur score, you can get admission.
2.) What is ur research work ? I have a friend at mcGill..He is into Robotics (with an emphasis on vision)..He was an international student when he got admission to McGill.Of course, he applied for a PhD..which means he got funding also.
3.) Work experience, may or may not count. The only way you can make it count is when you write your SOP (statement of purpose)... You can beat around the **** (censored :D) but thats as much as it will help you for admssion.
4.) Always always and always...U of T vs Community college.. come on man.. you must be on drugs if you ask me that question ;)
5.) Try an alternate field of research. You can try out aerospace (mcGill has a strong program in aerospace engg.)..or Fuel cells...(i think UBC has a strong presence).. In fact these 2 fields are hot (esp the latter)... write a good letter.
remember, its your prerogative to IMPRESS a prof and not the other way around ! So find a topic that the Prof is working in..and then frame your initial contact with him....
I hope you have your PR by now !

Hey ON

My research intersts lie in the field of control systems and mechatronics but i m also interested in the field of Mechanical design and prototyping too due to my present involvement in the same field. I had applied to univs in field of controls and mechatronics but the profs in this field were very limited in no. Perhaps I didnt had that much exposure in this field because of my mechanical background and had very few related courses in my undergraduate curriculum.

Yes I m considering applying to US univs for next Fall. Since u r in US right now perhaps u can guide me which univs r good in mechanical engg specially in design and prototyping.
