Here is a situation...
I am Professional & working in EPC company in Canada
During one of the job fair, I submitted resume to few companies
I recently got a call for interview
During interview, they asked me my expected salary
After interview, within few days I got job offer with just 5% more salary than present salary
Also after doing more research about this company, found they have few Oil & Gas projects
So I am thinking of refusing this job offer
What are the logical & professional ways of refusing job offer ?
I don't want to give salary as reason preferably
Also for future, I don't want to close the door for this company
Can someone suggest me ways of refusing this job...
Rejecting a job can be a difficult part in a job search. Before you reject a job, you need to think about why you are rejecting it. Is it the pay? The hours? The environment?
1. State that although the job offer offered by them is attractive but after thinking through thoroughly, the job doesn't really suit your long term plan and goals. Sincerely tell them that it is not nice of you to accept the job offer now and to quit after few months of work to search for one that really aligned to your long term plans
2. Tell them that after much discussion with your family members, although the job offer is attractive but it is not the best time for you to make a job switch at current juncture.
3. State that your current company got wind of your intention of a career switch and that they have counter offered you an attractive package and give you greater responsibilities ( This is a risk as u are lying if its not true but if u can get away with this go for it.)
Spend a few minutes thinking about it or tell the employer that you will think about it and get back with them once you have made your decision. Take your time if you need to, but make a smart choice
You never want to burn bridges behind you, most especially in the business world. you should do so tactfully and graciously
Be firm, tactful graceful and polite
All the best
Try stating that you need to take a 1-2 months vacation to home country in the coming 4 months .... its very hard for a new recruit to be granted such a privilege .

Though reasons for the job changes can be many (mostly money / better offers elsewhere) but the most frequent reason given by employees / candidates during resignation or job switch are personal reasons or family commitments.
Most easy one for me ever was ' Sir main Canada immigrate karr raha hnooo' . ;-)
I would suggest you simply quote 'due to personal reasons you will not be able to accept the offer at this time' .
At times if the company is really interested, HR might call you and discuss. on giving personal reason you are safe not to reveal much and politely deny to do so. Any other reason such as continuance at present company or less money can come in discussion easily.
all the best. you are one lucky person to be in such position of denying a freaking job

Please don't do that... It spoils the image of entire migrant community (not just us Indians )...
Sometimes, this is the reason why a native (gora) gets selected over an immigrant while they both have equal potantials.....
Don't know what to say but I m quoting from personal experience .
Was offered a job last year but had plans to travel to India in 2 months time and explained to the Company that it would not be proper for me to accept it now and try taking a prolonged leave ..... will meet them upon return ...
They agreed and appreciated the honesty ..... Canada esp Toronto is majorly immigrant .
