hi fellow desis,
I am new to canada and i was in search of job.
Looked for advertisements and applied.
3 months back i was interviewed by a company and they showed lots of interest in my application.
They asked me if i have any other job offer and all.
They did not respond for three months and finally after i inquired, they informed me that my application will not be considered at this moment but encouraged me to apply to new positions.
I sent a nasty email to say that they are unethical.
My email content is here for you guys.
Hi ,
It was a late response and that too it came after i inquired what had happened to my application.
It was little bit of surprise to me when your team informed me after 1 week of interview, that the position is under hold.
I have worked for more than 20 yrs and i never interviewed anyone seriously had i known that if a position itself is in doubt ( hold ) for the company.
It is unethical to hold a candidate for such a long time ( in this case 3 months ) without informing that the candidate is not being considered. This is what i have been taught. If i attended interview with some other company ( and got a job ) and if i told you that i am not prepared to accept the position in your company, you would have discussed within your company that i am unethical and you wrongly offered to me a job. Right ?
Your company felt this way of doing things right !
My application was discussed for a month time and your team had every opportunity during one month time to tell me that my application is not considered or at least after interview.
In our culture where i worked we take utmost care not to spoil the candidates career. I am sure your company has different meaning towards ethics.
I did care to reply to this email as you encouraged me to apply to new positions, especially when your team knows me and my experience and what is their assessment.
Follow simple steps in the future, do not complicate.
1) If you have position vacant, advertise. ( Untill now i am seeing the position for what i applied is vacant ! )
2) If you are happy with a resume, call for interview first and offer to him.
3) For some reason if that candidate has not accepted the job offer, call the second candidate and try to offer to him.
4) Find out the positives in a candidate during the interview instead of looking for negatives ! After all what you asses during interview ( 30 minutes ) is nothing. What the candidate actually will do is important!
Rejection letter was sent by mail (post) - I was very upset to read the letter, but did not lose hope. I call the company and spoke with the Hr person (I have her Business card) that she gave me during the interview. She told me to give her a day (so she can discuss with her Manager) - Then i called her back the next day and she call me for a second interview.
Lesson to learn, never lose hope in life. Have faith in yourself.
