hi fellow desis,
I am new to canada and i was in search of job.
Looked for advertisements and applied.
3 months back i was interviewed by a company and they showed lots of interest in my application.
They asked me if i have any other job offer and all.
They did not respond for three months and finally after i inquired, they informed me that my application will not be considered at this moment but encouraged me to apply to new positions.
I sent a nasty email to say that they are unethical.
My email content is here for you guys.
Hi ,
It was a late response and that too it came after i inquired what had happened to my application.
It was little bit of surprise to me when your team informed me after 1 week of interview, that the position is under hold.
I have worked for more than 20 yrs and i never interviewed anyone seriously had i known that if a position itself is in doubt ( hold ) for the company.
It is unethical to hold a candidate for such a long time ( in this case 3 months ) without informing that the candidate is not being considered. This is what i have been taught. If i attended interview with some other company ( and got a job ) and if i told you that i am not prepared to accept the position in your company, you would have discussed within your company that i am unethical and you wrongly offered to me a job. Right ?
Your company felt this way of doing things right !
My application was discussed for a month time and your team had every opportunity during one month time to tell me that my application is not considered or at least after interview.
In our culture where i worked we take utmost care not to spoil the candidates career. I am sure your company has different meaning towards ethics.
I did care to reply to this email as you encouraged me to apply to new positions, especially when your team knows me and my experience and what is their assessment.
Follow simple steps in the future, do not complicate.
1) If you have position vacant, advertise. ( Untill now i am seeing the position for what i applied is vacant ! )
2) If you are happy with a resume, call for interview first and offer to him.
3) For some reason if that candidate has not accepted the job offer, call the second candidate and try to offer to him.
4) Find out the positives in a candidate during the interview instead of looking for negatives ! After all what you asses during interview ( 30 minutes ) is nothing. What the candidate actually will do is important!
You demonstrated extreme unprofessionalism and lack of knowledge of the current labour market condition. Employers do not have to provide you with an answer, although it is nice if they do so.
You have burned a bridge and I would not recommend ever applying to this company again. You also dont know if the HR from this company have friends in other companies.
Its ALWAYS better to error on the side of politeness and professionalism. You could have sent a letter which indicated you appreciated a response to your application and hope they keep your application in mind for other positions.
Never burn your bridges. Never try to teach a company policies.

My answer : When in canada the labour market condition was better?
Employers do not have to provide you with an answer, although it is nice if they do so.
My answer : It is highly unethical if they do not respond after conducting interview and close to being chosen. Remember it is not one way traffic, it is two way traffic. The candidate ( too ) chose to attend the interview and ready to take a job thinking that the company is professional, the interview and selection will be fair and remunuration will be fair too. I THINK MEJORITY OF YOU GUYS HERE IN CANADA WERE JUST TAKING JOBS WHATEVER WAS COMING IN YOUR WAY WHETHER THE EMPLOYER WAS right employer or not. sorry state of affairs. POVERTY SPEAKS !!!
You have burned a bridge and I would not recommend ever applying to this company again. You also dont know if the HR from this company have friends in other companies.
My answer : I hate to apply to this company again and such companies in canada. I do not know how many such unethical companies i am going to face ! It is a joke you said the HR in that company has friends in other companies. LOL LOL. I do not know why you said in this way? You felt angry b'cos i commented on canadian company??

My answer : Mr . Morning rain, the company knows me, my credentials, my capacity. I do not like their polished ways of answering, i am a straight forward person, i answer straight. I will not bother to send an appreciation letter since they wasted my 3 months, rather prefer to question their policies.
Never burn your bridges. Never try to teach a company policies.

heh, It is logical to feel aggrieved after holding you up for 3 months & giving you hope. Potential shortlisted employees deserve a communication stating an approval or denial. It was unprofessional of the company or its HR to have not communicated.
Having said the above, your reaction is misplaced in Canada. Your reaction would hold true in India or similar countries where skilled employees still rule. This isn't the case here especially when you have not even entered the Canadian workplace.
Your response to morning_rain displays some sort of assumed elevated status that you seemed to have deemed yourself in. Remember your are the one seeking livelihood in this country's economic stage. If you think the folks working here are mired in poverty & don't wish to live a *poor* life, please go ahead & seek yourself an exit.
Your brashness and straight forwardness might not take you too far in Canada I am afraid.
Just curious, your highness arrived from Middle East or India?
Hi Chcool,
I support you for your email reply.
You must have received the funny email forward of an ex microsoft lowest employ who does not have an email, he does not conform to the norms ie email which is considered a step for success.
Dont worry if people judge your step as arrogance, people on this forum/canada can max get you information of openings unlike in india where they will make sure you get the position .
Dont worry much if it takes more time, everything happens for a reason.
My case long time back in india, for jet airways interview, i was rejected seven times, and the last three times i was the only odd one out, i was so humilated but few months down the line i got selected with Disney and was flying to USA. Instead of working in domestic airline here i was flying international paid by disney .
Above all god has a plan for everyone and is watching us from a distance, tc
