I was wondering if anyone here has experience of hiring the services of one of those "professional" resume writing outfits that charge anywhere from C$150 to upwards of C$500 for writing your resume. They make pretty good claims that the rsume will turn up an interview in 10 days else they will rework the resume for free. I don't know what happens after the second time(after 20 days). Do they go on reworking the resume? Surely not!
In anycase, what I wanted to ask was if anyone has any experience with such companies?

there is one good thing going to north american schools, and that is they teach u how to "wirte ur own resume". these guys r there to rip u off.

my advice

* go to public library and get atleast three books on writing cover letters and resumes. b a self dependent.

* if u r a cybor pilot then look for "forums" where u can down load resume and cover letter writing techniques.

* if u still want to "dump" ur money then come to old rabbi and i will show u how to write a "killer" resume?

That makes a little more sense, but no not "show me how to write"...rather please WRITE a "killer" for me. Willing to offer compensation if reasonable.

I don't want ur money little buddy, but give me a feedback about back-ground and experience. each cover letter and resume can be very different based on the background.

however, 1st thing is the cover letter which will introduce u to the employer and that "MUST" b an eye-catching event. It must look different than the other's so that it brings you in the limelight. Make it short (one page) and covers all your glorious savvy. stress on ur accomplishment like "I returned the company to profitability or saved a million dollars or..." something like Midas Touch. or in simple words ***I am the best***

so give me the feedback re ur background.

I already have a job and a pretty good one too, and hence all that bit about being "lazy". However, I have been eyeing the land south of the border for a while and am getting in the mood to make a move and that's where the need for the resume.
What you advise about the content of the cover letter, is all available from any of the several source on the web. They all say the same thing as you and use the same phrases as you - "eye catching", examples of "accomplishments", figures for savings or enhanced profits etc etc. Who doesn't know that already?
I work as an analyst in a company that employs >7000 people. It is impossible to say how much of the profit of 150 million dollars was on my account! What "midas" touch? I, like any one else, is a cog in the big wheel. I do not work as a salesman in a small company, where I can put down exact figures from my accounts. Working as a software analyst is different. The work done is in teams and there are multiple teams involved in a project, each person contributing in his area of expertise. Easier said than done Mr Guru...there is no dearth advice and suggestions.

on the contrary i think i can help u write a resume for the position of a "president". would u consider replacing george bush? i give u all the help u need

hmmm. i wonder why would i ask for help if i were "mr. know it all"?

are american resumes different than the canadian ones? this is analogous to something like a patient asking a doc to diagnose for some illness that the patient is not sure about????
