I was away for a few weeks as I was caught up with kids exams, flat construction, etc. I forgot to mention abt the interview in New Delhi. I had told them that I did not want to move out of my place for job except may be for a few days. Still they wanted to meet with me. Spent four days there, stayed in the company guest house, had a company car at my disposal. They did take me to the WC match in Kotla, pavilion seat. To make long story short, I was offered a position in Delhi. As my field is specialized, I did expect an offer. Here is their deal:
Rs. 30k pm + 2 BR flat (rent free) +Round trip air fare every month to my place
Basically work for 3 weeks, 6 days a week, then take off for a week. I almost fell for that offer, but that is not what I want. I could have got a good job in ME if I wanted. But our priorities are different. I can’t stay away for 3 weeks every month. There are things I need to take care off in my place. That is the reason we moved back to India. May be if they open a branch in my place and offer me a position, surely I will grab. Money would not be an issue.
Btw, we bought a 2 br flat as an investment, thanks to the RE market in Canada, through the profit we got from selling the house. Busy with it as it has to be done fast as the tenant is waiting to move. Things move very slow in our country, sometimes its really frustrating.

Fairly good deal, Considering rent free apartment in Delhi.
In 1988 i had a job in Bombay that paid 25,000 Rupees.

something is not right here.
Rs. 30,000 in Delhi, even with free house doesn't sound like much and it is definetely not a deal.
Esp. since this company put you up in an apartment, gave you a car and free tickets to a game, they can certainly afford more.
1 4 day hotel stay + rented car + game tickets itself must have cost close to Rs. 30,000 just for those 4 days.
it is true that rent is a big expense in delhi but everything is expensive there.
you will probably spend the entire Rs. 30,000 every month and no saving.
these days salaries of Rs. 1 Lakh are more common esp for senior posts
