I am moving to Canada with my wife and 2 small kids... 3 and 5 years old. I am moving from INDIA.

Is it easy for me to get admission in Kindergarten?

I want to keep my kids busy, as they like it too. What are the options available.. like
1. Fullday kindergarten
2. Kindergarten + Day care

Please suggest me a good option. When should I land to make sure that they get a place in kindergarten.

Can you please suggest some of the best Kindergarten in and around Toronto?

Schools begin around first week of Sep and end in June. Your 5 year old is most likely eligible for Senior Kindergarten (SK) in the public school of where you would be living.

So, if you want them to start from day 1 which is first week of Sep, then you now know when to land. As far as I know, in ON, JK and SK (junior and Senior kindergarten) are from 8.50 to 3 pm. Where I live, the kids get the option of Mon, Wed and alternate Fridays or Tue, Thu and alternate fridays. During the remainder of the days the kids can be kept busy at a daycare.

Admission is automatic in public schools as long as you fulfil the legal requirements and provide all necessary documents. Example - immunization record, proof of residency, proof you live in the school's jurisdiction (lease documents, utility bills), birth certificate, etc, etc.

The admission process begins with the kid's registration which happened in Feb 2010. Although you are late for that, you would still need to register your child as part of the admission process.

Hope this helps a bit.

Edit - based on your other post in other thread, looks like you are moving in mar 2011. So, you might have extra time to prepare all the school related issues.

Thanks for your reply.

Can my 3 year daughter can also join the kindergarten? or only Daycare? Is there any provision in the school for Playgroup for kids below 4 years?

If Daycare is the only option, how much will it cost.

The cut off - the child needs to be 4 years of age by Dec in order to join JK. You can figure out if that would be the case for your 3 year old when you arrive.

Private day care costs can vary. I have been paying around $31 for a pre-schooler for a 5 day week. So, the monthly cost has been between $600 and $730 depending on the number of attending days for the month. Montessori structured daycares will be much more expensive. When my son attended a private montessori, the cost was $250 per week (about $1000 to $1250 a month depending the 4 or 5 week month).
