Again, what did the Canadian Govt. do to make this a better place for us immigrants?
The CIC in New Delhi conducts interviews to see if we are fit for this country professionally but it never warns us that we will be discriminated based upon our colour, ethinicity, soft skills etc? There is no one to welcome us at the airport and to offer us some sort of accomodation help (we are ready to pay the market price for it).
All Non VM's are in a very good job here and many who are much under qualified than us- Most VM's (like the 12 grade Auto workers earning $35 an hour etc..)while we have to work at Mac, Tims, factories etc (Except IT and Finance people).
I am taking some courses in HR (Human resources) and I find that the law is very discriminating. One one hand they are advising us to given equal rights to VM's, Women, Handicapped and the Aboriginals (known as the designated groups) and on the other hand the employer is free to set up his own requirements for the job. Except the Federal govt. and any other company getting federal contracts, you are not expected to do any reports. For the Federal govt. and the companies getting federal contracts, there has to be a report generated every year outlineing what they did to attract these designated groups. This does not mean that they have to hire anyone under these groups but only to state what they did to interview and test these people falling under these groups. This is hid from the general public. I am sure that if the Visa officers told us about these real situations existing in Canada, Many professional immigrants (other than the people who already have contacts in Canada to help them get labour jobs (AKA Punju's)) may not be migrating.
Why doesn't the Cdn Govt. and the Non VM's do something to make this world a better place for us VM's to live in Canada and praise and glorify this great nation. I bet they dare not do anything that will unseat them from their easy jobs.
Peace by a PD

What does PD and VM stand for?
I am amazed at the energy levels of TK. He won't stop ranting. But yes I must thank him for the entertainment value.
I will try to reply to these wild, & unreasonable rants. I am not sure I will succeed, given the fact that TK is unstoppable.
\"The CIC in New Delhi conducts interviews to see if we are fit for this country professionally but it never warns us that we will be discriminated based upon our colour, ethinicity, soft skills etc?\"
Have you heard of \"Caveat emptor \"? For the most part, it would mean \"buyer beware\" - mostly to the purchase of goods, but I have taken the liberty of extending the term to the service of immigration, provided by the Canadian Government.
How can the Government warn a prospective immigrant that \"we will be discriminated based upon our colour, ethinicity, soft skills etc?\".......... First of your feeling of discrimination may be nothing but sheer paranoia. And then, with due respect, when it comes to self assessment, most of us give ourselves more marks, than we actually deserve. That being said, this state could be more related to the mind, than reality.
Even assuming for a moment that this is true (even though I have never felt discriminated against in my many years here).......... that would be akin to a warning at the Delhi airport reading \"Rampant corruption here - beware, you must be willing to bribe each step of your way\".......... wouldn't that be funny?
Secondly, why should the Government \"welcome us here\" at the airport? I don't think you know, but time was, when persons of certain \"highly skilled categories\" were actually met at the airport by a government official , and even provided free accommodation at decent hotels, in the 60's. One of my relatives who is currently an expert in avionics was one among those who got such a red carpet welcome.
Today it is a question of numbers, and besides If we can take the risk of transition into an alien culture, why should we expect to be spoon fed?
This incessant rant about being a \"VISIBLE MINORITY\", discrimination, blah, blah, blah must stop, for heaven's sake........ Tk - you should take a hard look at how so called \"forward communities\" have been treated back home, in order to make way for \"minorities, scheduled caste and scheduled tribes\".
I would think it shameful to think that because I am a \"visible minority\", I should be treated with royalty. I find it ridiculous to expect the Government here to dictate terms to the private sector as to what qualifications to put in place, to hire a person............. this is not a dictatorship, the soviet republic or an eastern block country - even there I am not sure the Government did this either.
So my dear TK, stop ranting and start living! Read one positive thing each day, improve your skills, what ever your passion lies in (and please use spell check - it helps!). Chalk out a plan, and if you believe in the power beyond, ask Him for courage to change the changeable, and accept that you can't (and I am not referring to the \"discrimination\" you always write about, endlessly).
Fill the empty spaces in your mind with courage instead of terms like \"visible minorities, and aborigines\"........ Stop being paranoid , and yes if you believe that you feel unwanted here despite your best efforts, do something independently or go back home to where your heart might belong. It doesn't matter if you make millions, if your heart yearns for something it might call \"home\".
I know that the last thing you want is - being told that you could be wrong.......... but the fact is that all of us have frailties.......... don't we?

A lot of rants from TK & similar desis comes out of their misunderstanding of the term "qualifications". We in India, believe that we are "qualified" simply because we have the education.
Rather people confuse "education" for "qualification". In order to qualify, you either need to have the skills or experience or sometimes both. Just as an example - just because one has an MBA, doesn't make him "qualified to be a manager"...... To qualify as a manager, one needs skills such a s good people skills, time management, organization, and leadership skills. We from India believe that simply because we have the education, it makes us "qualified"..... It is high time we understood the difference.
About TK's rant about how under qualified "non visible minorities" who had just a 12th grade worked as car mechanics, earning $ 35 an hour. I don't understand why is to hard to understand that you pay your mechanic for his skills - and his being a 12th grade graduate has nothing to do with it.
On the flip-side, you could have a degree in avionics, but you don't qualify as a mechanic if you can't tell the difference between a 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder car. How hard is this, to understand?
Given that an automobile mechanic makes $ 35 an hour, TK could become one, instead of this ranting incessantly!
