Last week my wife and I were successfully landed at Vancouver for Canda PR and we came back to USA.
The officer told us that we need to go to Vancouver office inperson and collect the "PR CARD". He also mentioned that I will be receiving a letter to the address given in Vancouver. The letter will show us the date and time when we can go and collect the PR Card.

Currently my wife is pregnenet and that leads us to the following questions:

1. I can go and collect my PR card alone at Vancouver office, correct?
2. Can I collect PR Card for my wife, with out her appearance at office?
3. Can I ask my wife to go and collect her PR card after the baby is born?
(At the time of landing we told the immigration office that we don't have any kids. Also I did not mentioned them that my wife is pregnenet.)

4. At the time of PR Card issuence will the officer ask her that there are any new additions (newly born baby) in the family? If so will this be a problem? Do we need to declare our new born baby.
(The new born baby will be American Citizen.)

5. Does any body know how long is the PR Card processing taking place at Vancouver?
6. Is there a way we can check the status of our PR Cards....

Experts, Kindly help your help will be greatly appreciated ....

HI !
Just let you know few complications if you decide your child to be born outside Canada :
1. Once you or your spouse is not Canadian citizen and you decide your child to be born outside Canada , you HAVE to sponsor him after his birth. I hope you already know that the immigration process is not EZ and is time consuming .
2. If you have already completed your mandatory initial time to be covered for health insurance all cost for delivery is borne by the govt . Sometimes this cost is too heavy to pay in case the delivery is not natural.
As far I know you can pick most of the doc's for your wife as long as you have written authorization from her .
At the time when u will pickup the cards , you won't be asked any q's.
Geberally PR takes 3-4 weeks to be processed.
Hope it helps ..
Ashwani

Hello!
FYI, A child when born in America is an American Citizen. Once you get an American Passport, then the child can enter canada without a visa or a PR card. You can apply for the child's Permanent residence while being outside Canada (or even if the child is within Canada). Once the child gets PR of canada you do this :
1. If the child is outside of Canada, enter Canada and leave .
2. If the child is within canada, exit Canada and enter to get Residency for the child.
TK
sidenote : one of my friends did this while staying in Canada and the baby was an american citizen. They applied from within Canada, and left canada through Fort Erie and entered back a min. later to get residency for the child. But for a child born to Canadian PR's in asia or africa, it is a pain to get PR and validate the PR. For people residing in America , it is of no sweat. the only problem is if you are too far from the border like say texas, you will have to fly to reach canadian borders with the child.

He probably will not have much trouble as his US green card may be through in the next few years. I guess he applied for Canada PR to be on safer side.
