Yeah, there are many patel families in Canada. I wonder how many have kept their traditional life style. Majority of Patel families have adopted western culture which is good but it will hurt those who are accidently attached with westernized families by some reason. Unites State has also many Patel's.

One should need to remember, keep the proud of what you are being called Patel, dont let'em go!!

Gujju community is no where close to "Singh" community abroad.
any particular reason??? Both seem to be hard working. But why singhs appear to be well-established abroad than gujjus??

Is it so? For Canada this is true - but for US I don't think Singhs dominate gujjus..

In Canada gujjus really started migrating during last decade where as punjabis are here for more than 100 years!

I am not sure - but even after they are here for over 100 years, I don't see many punjabis in government jobs.. Like Teachers, Professors, Doctors.. Any reason?

This is the last name everybody know in Toronto - you don't have to spell it for goras!!

So many patels that whenever you go to any public computerise system (for example library or bank) and they try to search your name using last name plus first name, they are always getting over 200 records!!! For example Patel Ramesh might get them 200 records. Then they will ask for postal code - even in that postal code they will see 3-4 Rameshes.. :(

The last option is to go for phone number and then they can nail you down...

They are puzzling with this last name....

Check it out. The BBC now acknowledges the "Patel Motel" phenomenon in the U.S.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/3177054.stm

I think the business instinct is somehow genetically implanted into all Patels :D . I have many patel friends who are professionals but always talk about quitting their jobs and running a business. Give Patels 4/5 yrs. more in Canada and I'm sure they'll be running a lot of businesses.

And let's not get into the "Who's more powerful : Singhs or Patels" debate. We're all Indians first and the progress of ANY indian shoudl make us all proud.
