Much ado about nothing !!

Desis please stop arguing with foreigners on the subjects which are normal for them, it hurts the impression we carry. Speaking against LGBT is rustic (ghati) thought in this part of the world rather not legal in Canada. Please keep it to yourself like many other thoughts you hide here.

Sex ed for five year olds? Give me a break! And you wonder why kids grow up fast nowadays.

Schools have become cesspools of government propaganda and catching them young seems to be the new strategy. Parents have a right to not put up with it.

"Progressive" countries like the Nordic countries are already experimenting with genderless schools and may go mainstream with it. Canada is considering it, though it may take a while. But the educators will test the waters and try and push it through.

With due respect, I see no big deal in this.
I am surprised that people are commenting that it is bad when they choose to immigrate to Canada, a country of free men.
When I was talking about the lack of job oppertunities in Canada, every one started to fight with me saying that I should have known this before I immigrated and that I choose immigration and that Canada never called me here to settle etc... Many went to the extent of asking me to leave, if I did not like this place.

So how is this issue any different or are we talking about double standards? Do people like to listen to only what they like to hear?

Murali Krishna.

There seems to be a misunderstanding as to where Canadians stand on issues. There are diverse opinions on various subjects including lifestyle issues. Early introduction to LGBT/sex education is not what most Canadian parents want for their children, only that they are compelled to make choices in a representative(especially parliamentary) democracy.

It is a local issue and is often fought tooth and nail by parents, depending on the location(somewhat less in Toronto). As a stakeholder not only is it your right to fight for what you think is appropriate, but it is your duty as a citizen to participate.

Generally speaking Canada is a fair and accommodating country on issues like these, but no quarter is given and non taken here. You have to fight for and earn your keep. Schools are not daycare centers for your kids to dump them into and expect results. Parents have to monitor progress.

Yes, this is one of the risks taken when moving to Canada that needs to be continuously assessed and monitored by parents-- as the OP seems to be doing-- and appropriate action taken, including homeschooling if it is feasible.

My son comes home and says mom my teacher (meaning the care taker at after school day care program ) said in Canada a boy can marry a boy and a girl can marry a girl.

I went to the teacher who is a teenager herself, and asked for the context in which this dialogue happened etc. She said kids were discussing this topic and asked me so I clarified. I told the teacher we do not want to expose our kids to these things at this age (he just turned 5), can you pl avoid such topics. Her response, it is a law in Canada and if a kid asks we can not lie and we have to give them the right info and they can then do whatever they want with that info. I said I am not asking u to lie but if u can avoid the topic, that would be great. It seemed like they (another colleague of hers joined) were not happy with me bringing this up and were unable to see my point of view or my concerns. I was v polite and trying to understand whole situation and trying to explain them my perspective.

P.S. : I have no disrespect for any one who is L/ G ; its just that we are not on terms with this new evolution yet and need some more time to come at par.

Hello Aashu,

I found a nice article, being a little too long, I will provide here just the link to it. Not knowing how much exposure the children get to such topics in each and every household, I will let the question ride its course on this thread. Some of us who are reserved and keep all of this under the hat in our homes, when find that the children are getting not only an earful but are getting spoon fed at the lower grades in their educational institutions, find it shocking. Yes, we do have recourse to this as there are higher ups there in the schooling system that we can call and scream our apprehension and see how well they resolve these questions that arise in OUR day to day life.

Here is the link to the article. :

Hope this will throw some light on it and we get to see the advancements that are looming in the horizon. Good or bad, I will accept it. As time progresses, all the countries will adapt to it. I don't mind being in a country that is tops in this subject matter.

FH.
