My mother will be a new immigrant landing to Canada in early 2014. Once she lands she will have to fill out some required documentation (PR form, goods to follow list etc.) Since she has never left her country of origin and is in her 60’s,a nd does not understand english very well she may have problems communicating to the immigration officer in filling out documentation and answering her questions. Is there a means by which I assist her by physically being present with her at the appropriate area in the airport.I wont travel with her, just want to be there when she is asked to fill out forms etc.

Is there a formal way to request this? Can someone just walk into this area at the airport (i am thinking not)

I know tonnes of people who could not communicate even in Hindi or Punjabi properly forget English . None of them had a smallest bit of issues at immigration . People are very friendly and helpful . In worse case scenarios they can call the translator if required . Nonetheless also do not forget that there are quite a bit of workforce at the airport who are from India .
Good luck and congratulations that your mother is joining you .

Congrats! Yeah do not worry, just write a short letter stating that she is landing and will need a translater and ask her to keep it along with rest of the documents. They will provide assistance. Very good people at immigration. My parents were in similar situation but did not face any issue.
And then you might find some desis lurking around to make quick buck for assistance. Tell her to avoid desis who will offer help in exchange for money. :) (Just a joke...)

Good luck!

WHY THE F**K COULDN'T they arrange for an Official Interpreter at the Vancouver International Airport?

On top of that they tried to hide the sordid details of the case and did a lot of wishy washy stuff to get out of the conspiracy and Murder that they all committed. It only came to light after some one provided them with a VIDEO.

It was a sad tale, I would never want to see another incdident like this, ever again.

I will provide you later with detailed instructions. Since you have a few days to organize, I will post it soon.

LANDING.... CBSA DECLARATION CARD

THIS ONE SAYS 13-10 SO IT IS THE LATEST ONE, MUST HAVE REPLACED THE OLD B 4
http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/forms-formulaires/e601-eng.pdf

FORM B4 :

WHAT U SHOULD CARRY?
U should make 2 copies of the form B4. One for the 'Goods Accompanying' & one for the 'Goods to Follow'. Alongwith the attachments. What's that? Here u go...
HERE IS SOME HELP IN B4 : STEP-1:
a) Group all similar items into one list & thus make 8 lists.
b) Type these groups in Excel Sheets* [separate for each group]. Title each Sheet. And a Page No.
c) Enlist the Columns as: Sl.No | Item Description | Qty | Value (CAD) |
d) Total the Value, of each Excel Sheet.
e) Take printouts of each Excel Sheet in A4 size paper [2 copies].

You can make a few or even more Headings: With pictures and invoices or amounts paid for them.
All of the minor items enter Canada FREE. Pictures if you ever want to take them out and bring them back again.

1.Electronics, T.V.s etc.,
2.Jewelries, Worn on body or Carrying in person.
3.Clothing & Personal Effects, Value
4.Books & DVDs, Software or movies.
5.Gadgets & Mobile Phones,
6.Cutlery Crockery and Utensils,
7.Home Decorations, Pintings & Murals AND
8.Linens & Drapers, and CARPETS , Floor or wall hanging.
9. Medicines for personal use 90 to 180 days use.
10. MONEY ON HAND AT THE TIME OF LANDING. PLUS VALUE OF THE ABOVE.

NOTE:
1. Do not forget to take 2 printouts of each form B4 and its attachments. One will be kept by them.
2. Do not forget to take pics of the Jewelry. Otherwise, they'll not accept it*.
3. Do not forget to get it stamped on landing. Sometimes the BSO doesn't ask. It's our prerogative.*** Make a request that they stamp.

B4 : Goods Accompanying & Goods to Follow. USE THE SAME FORMS.
http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/publications/forms-formulaires/b4-eng.pdf

WRITE A NEAT NOTE AND ASK FOR AN INTERPRETER. Also mention the languages spoken by the immigrant.
Ask him/her to identify first.

Good Luck.
