Sorry, I am erasing this because somehow I posted the same message twice and can't properly delete the post.

The observation is as follows:
Typically the winner gets around 12 to 15,000 votes while the second place person gets around 8 to 10,000 votes and the third person gets around 5 to 6000 votes.
Wherever the white person has won he or she has won due to heavy white turnout and this typically is a higher age group person who will not be there in the next decade as Canadian population is Ageing.
While the second or the third position person of Desi origin, who might be of Islamic origin will definitely have a higher vote bank when the children of his community will reach voting age. With the assumption that they will vote in majority towards a person of his community, I see a future for all those middle eastern or Pakistani Islamic candidates who might have lost today but will resoundingly in the next elections.
I'm NOT so gung-ho on Indian Desis(including Indian muslims) because they are not having more than 2 kids, while people from other locations are having a minimum of 3 to 5 kids. Many of the Islamic candidates themselves have minimum of 3 kids.
The future is BRIGHT.
Having more children so that they can vote for you is not bright. First of all they would have to all stay in the same district. I think this is why the Tamil candidate in Scarborough just won but who knows those who voted for her may have also been attracted by her party the NDP. I don't think people will stop voting by party just because someone of their ethnicity runs. For example Ruby Dhalla lost to another person of Indian descent, from a different political party.
Most groups have their birthrate drop after they enter western societies. Canada does not track birthrate by ethnicity so we don't know what the trend is in Canada but I suspect Pakistani-Canadians will follow the international pattern of birth rate dropping once they adjust to life in middle class industrial society as many Indians already have.
One final point, Canadian immigrants tend to have high voter turn out just like seniors do. If you have data to back your ascertation that white people vote more frequently than non-white people in the same age group, aside from data regarding voter age and your assumption that the voting seniors are white, I would be very interested in that data and would appreciate if you could share the source. Thanks!

Federal government positions are among the only ones in the country where they can openly use affirmative action in hiring and they do. Usually it is on the basis of language not ethnicity (with preference for French and 'heritage' languages). This benefits second generation Canadians more than first (they have heritage languages and Canadian education). It also greatly benefits francophones.
Here is how the government is hiring enumerators for the 2011 census. People applied online in January. 85000 applicants for 35000 jobs. All candidates were contacted to write a test. Some were not contacted for two whole months after they applied. After the test all who had a high pass (above 8/12 I believe) were to come in for an interview. They eventually switched to doing phone interviews. At this point they are looking for sound judgement skills, proficiency in language and heritage languages. Again this step took a month or more. Next every applicants references were contacted and a criminal check done. If the candidate passed the test, the interview, the reference check and the criminal check they were entered into a database. Only individuals in the database could be hired, but there is no gaurantee of being hired from being in the database. Candidates in the database continue to be called to verify if they are still looking for a job and if they are available on certain days for training. They are not calling specific candidates who they WILL train on those days, just ALL candidates from the area to see if they are available. Those who are available will be considered.
This is absolutely the most beaurocratic hiring process imaginable. They haven't finished hiring and its been a five month process. Why check references before narrowing down the number of candidates? To keep themselves employed. I recognize this is not for a public service job with any kind of benefits or pension but this incredibly ineffecient process is being paid for with tax dollars.

Why are some desi's are bent upon criticizing anything associated with Conservatives ?
What has gone horribly wrong in last 5 years ? In fact Canada weathered the recession better than most developed countries.
4 elections in last 7 years. Is that not enough to have a stable government at the federal level.
Think for the good of nation and be positive

Its the resources wealth which has kept Canadian economy, Canadian dollar, etc. afloat (or else, Canada would have witnessed the US/Greece/etc. style collapse). We should be thankful, (not complaining)..
Here is something to cheer about: "Canada's million-dollar prediction" http://ca.news.yahoo.com/video/canews-22424922/canada-s-million-dollar-prediction-25141639.html
The video in the link has a joker from Deloitte providing statistics. Like the useless bums they are, what he does not say is that what would be the purchasing power of that one million dollar. So his statement is worthless, like him. I guess it would be more interesting if that bum provides the information as to how much fine they pay to SEC and how much more would they pay 10 years down the line and still claim to hold professional ethics.
