Totally hypothetical argument. Talking about the situation which was 100 years old. If you point finger on others there can be many fingers pointed on you. I would have accepted your argument if you are in India and working for the upliftment of people of India. But as your location says you are in Nova Scotia and making this argument. Looks pretty strange.

Well if its about money then I guess anybody who has investments in india...including foreign investors are better indians. Afterall the more the money you put into india the better the indian ;).

BTW what if people are sending money back home to sustain/help their loved ones.

Are they 'Indian' enough? Or is there some other criteria apart from tax dollars and being physically present in India?

No sir, investments dont count. It is what you do to improve your country on voluntary basis and how one meets the legal obligations.
So far as the indians in India not paying income tax is concerned, while the scoundarls indulge in all kind of cheap talk and raise their fists in air while talking about patriotism and the feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeling of being Indian, they simply look the other way when the country actually requires something of them. However in their case at least they are legally Indian just as people of Indian origin who have taken up another country's citizenship are not Indian by that country's laws.
indians have a bizzare and shallow way of celebrating their own greatness by desperately trying to find signs of success in anyone remotely Indian even by birth. That points to a deperate psychological problem which was justified lets say 10-12 years ago when the country was in doldrums. Now that they are doing pretty well and the pace is accelrating, it is time they start loking at their own heroes.
it will be a shame if a nation of 1 billion can't find its own heroes and heroines.

Arent you confusing IQ with X ray vision?

Motives can always be questioned. Just as in the NRI's returning now...would they return if they heard the indian economy was in a bad shape? Why did they leave in the first place ....etc. I'm just trying my xray vision too...but the low IQ is inhibiting me....I must confess.

Heard that Paris Hilton has a keralite link and is going to kerala...claims she always loved coconuts as it makes her feel so 'tropical'. Buckle up for the mother of all debates.;) .

Its not an indian condition but a human condition. e.g: Austrians and Schwarzenegger, Irish and JFK, Italians and Maddonna(well i'm probably stretching it now :))

BTW does anybody here know that foreign passport holders(non-doms) pay low taxes in the UK? So there are a lot of superrich in the UK right now who live and work in the UK but pay little in taxes.

These are salt of the earth indian, russian, italians etc who have a VERY good reason to retain their original passports.

'There are 24 British citizens on our most recent annual list of the world's richest people. And 32 of the world's richest people list the UK as their place of residence.Twenty-one appear on both lists, with the Duke of Westminster being the highest ranking British-based billionaire, ranked number 100 overall and the fourth richest man in the UK after Lakshmi Mittal at number five, Roman Abramovich at number 11 and Hans Rausing at number 56.'
