Kindly check again and find the 'differences' in PIO / OCI card v/s the Indian Passport Holder ...... you will find a lot of difference which has been kept because the Govt does not want foreign settled people to take benefits of India . They could have allowed the Indian Passport as done by a lot of countries .

Sir ,

Please rethink over for a minute ~ a person who was born to a Slovenian mother and an Indian father who married a non Indian lady ~ born and brought up in the US , studied throught in the US ~ worked in the US , has been married to an American , came to India after 9 years ~ what kind of sense of belongingness do you think she retains - I doubt if she even knows her mother tongue .

Very well said. I couldn't agree more with you!

Yes there is differene ... it is not overnite that change will take place .... after all PIO had not status a few years back ...... one was treated at par with foreigners ...... there has been this change & after some time , you will see opening of investment in all areas .... that is future
The post office schemes are heavily subsidised by government .... and had it not been for the pressure from left, they would have reduced the interest on these scheems long time back.
So in future when the PO schems earn the interest without any subsidy, they will open these also to PIO's

Future I dont know of - it may or may not happen .

Why is it not an overnight process - pray explain ~ countries younger than India by 1/2 century allow you to carry their own passport in addition to other passports.

Well if you they allow it then all the people who "licked"shoes of british would become Indian citizens .... would you be happy !!!!! :D
On a serious note ..... policy of a country is decided by its people .... in India voting rights were given to every citizen ... while as in america the blacks got it in 1965 ..... and it had been a democracy for 2 centuries before India.

Dont need to rethink about this. Sense of belongingness doesnt need to have all above things in today's world. I can provide you with many arguments of her feeling of belongingness to India but dont want to repeat the same thing. Neither this argument will stop people who consider her as a role model and feel proud for her nor it will stop her humble feelings towards Indian heritage.

In her latest speech to 'Sabarmati Ashram' she very well said 'from space the world( planet) looks so beautiful no borders at all. India was looking very green and there were no borders on the earth. Borders are in the mind of people. Gandhi knew this even without visiting space'. I think this was her answer to her critics as this dispute was already started before her visit by some people and she knew it very well.

These are stereotyped replies .Dont tell me you believed them ~ India was looking green and all .....

OK if she is so much feeling Indian ness in your words then what does she plan to do for India ~ return back like the protagonist in 'Swades' or open a school or something - sir - try and rise above these eyewashes - she will do nothing and continue with her American way of life.

If she does and I hope all these functions make her develop a bondage for India I will write as many apologies , as I have written posts in this thread .

Puttoo ~ I understand that you have a different perspective of Indians settled abroad and I respect that - not that I dont belive in that , but I feel those numbers are very few . Ultimately with all our differences in opinions / views we still belive in India s progress and thats a good heartwarming thing . Time to say Goodbye to this thread . God bless all :)
