Today only I went thro' this article & wanted to bring that forward to all canadian desis.

I do believe this statement from the bottom of my heart, even our 'kaamwali bai' in India is way more happier than we do here. (here 'we' as in 'my family')

Because it is 'We as in my family' according to you, I as an individual who is not very happy in Canada would advise you to try and shift to a place you will be happier. Nothing is more important in this world, according to my thinking, than the happiness of family as a whole.

Its because all the unappy Indians have left India and have settled in North America/Europe etc.. and the happy ones are still there..
This poll would have been conducted by Phone.. how many of the struggling Indians have phones in their homes? Isn't this survey a little biased because it shows the opinion of probably top 1% of Indians.

I personally dont think true internal happiness has got much to do with economic status or the country we live in . Material wealth surely helps in aiding happiness but is not a prerequisite.
Whenever i go back to my native place in bihar, i am always amazed by the level of "happiness" in the folks there. One of my most eye opening experiences was in a blind school for kids .... to us it may seem that they are suffering, but the cheerfulness and happiness i felt among the kids inspite of their situation, changed my understanding of happiness.

Everyone has differnet interpretation of happiness. I concur with the description which says "Happiness is in being content with the situation one is in".
I guess this would explain high levels of happiness in unexpected places.

As Abe Lincoln said ..."Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be. "
"That man is richest whose pleasures are cheapest."

Surely you must have heard of this cliche:

"there are three types of lies - lies, damned lies, and statistics". Which category does this belong to? I leave it to your imagination.:D
