moderator: Presumably your kid would not have a problem with other people choosing interracial marriage. Anti-desi's original post was directed at those who are 'adverse to the idea of interracial marriage', or those who hold contempt for the idea. Therefore, his initial post does not apply to people in the situation you described, who might choose to marry someone whose ideals, religion and values are similar to his own (and thus is probably of the same race).

Also, there are inherent limitations to freedom of speech. You can't yell fire in a crowded theatre and you can't make remarks that incite hatred or violence against a particular group of people.

Regardless, this has nothing to do with the topic at hand. The question isn't whether it's legal to feel that interracial marriage is an abomination, but whether people who do feel that way are 'in the wrong', for lack of a better sentence (it's way to late to think to straight). It's an ethical, social debate, not a legal one.

You presume correct.
Maybe its just that, Anti-desi has some issues phrasing what he wants to convey. Because your explanation certainly isn't what you'd derive from his original post with comments like

Umm...let's not waste time discussing something that's so obvious.

Yeah, its not. The legal angle comes in when you start talking about deporting people. And I didn't make that comment.
Btw, how come you guys are making points on Anti-desi's behalf? I find it pretty strange (and not without a very interesting precedent on this site). Are you buddies? Roomies? Or the same dude?

I'm all for the Charter and protected Rights - I do not look favorably upon those who abuse it - and given that you are quoting the Charter in response to my comments about being non accepting of bias and bigotry -I’d say you're a very confused individual.

Just be careful what you wish for. There are a long line of people who hate your guts for being Indian and look at you as nothing more then a towel head who are counting on social acceptance to use the Charter to justify ones right to bigotry. The Indian community will find itself at the receiving end of that. Have it anyway you like.
. Why do you sound to me like you're somewhere in that line?-----------------------------------------------------------------

yes, I know anti-desi. I mentioned that in my first post. He told me about this discussion and I decided to check it out and get involved. If you want to check if we're the same person, compare IPs.
I'm clarifying his points because I see what it is he's trying to convey, but I think people are missing the point.
Just another clarification ;o): it's not about deportation, but the point is that bigots don't NEED to be here and if they don't like it, they never should have come here. Canada's policy on multiculturalism was established 30 years ago. It's a well-known characteristic of the canadian experience, so why would someone who hates the Canadian way of life choose to immigrate here, or choose to stay?
I can accept freedom of speech, but I won't accept bigotry without challenge.

I'd say the same about you, just with a higher degree of accuracy.

I know a few people on this site personally - people told me about it. If you’d bothered to read all the posts – a number of people have come out and said they know me personally on a few different occasions. I grew up in Canada. Obviously I know Canadians. Secondly, you just reinforced brat's initial point - taking single phrases out of context and picking at them. The message, as harshly worded as it is, in the original post was transparent. I don’t think you’re an idiot - so don't tell me that I wasn't being clear with use of language like "adverse to interracial marriage". And yes, people have been nitpicking at single points, twisting them out of context and forcing side-debates in order to divert the topic while ignorant the overall point of my posts.
