Do u get a sense of belonging in the UK considering that most ppl around are British natives which undoubtedly scorn at the minority UNLIKE Canada which has a teeming majority of Immigrants and generates a sense of equality which is important in settling down ?

Although the sense of belonging is always with the place you are born and brought up in.

But definetely UK gives u a sense of belonging. Although the majority are the British natives, u have areas with a greater proportion of immigrants.
Places like Southhall, Leicester, Birmingham etc. are teeming with South Asians.Indian Grocery, Video, Paan shops at every corner.
A lot of immigrants work at the London Heathrow.

Buildings of worship have true and beautiful architecture. eg Churches, GuruDwaras, Mandirs, Mosques. (Not just BOX Architecture)
The immigrants are also more entrenched in the British way of life. There are more and more inter cultural marriages taking place. Any social clubs or pubs will indicate a cross cultural environment.
Bollywood movies and music are hot, even the natives love them. The British have definetely opened up to different cultures.
The popular English game CRICKET is attended and enjoyed by all.

Although we cannot escape the racism factor. At least, Racism is more open so is better to control (Subtle racism is difficult to control and is much more damaging)

Above all the British economy is vibrant.

hey hey hey!!!

i dont think any of you guys truely know what living in the uk is like.
ok so you lived there for 5 years....... depending where in the uk you lived.... you could have been in southall or wembly or tooting or even maybe leicester or manchester....this towns are mainly APNE... that doesnt tell you wat real british life is like.
i was born in the uk... and lived there for 32 years of my life.... we were lucky that we did have all the fancy restaurants...and now cinema's and bars but that is only recently. i have seen racism in the uk... lots of racism fireworks being put thru indians letterboxes.... you couldnt get on the buses without being called names. my mother who wore sari;s had problems always....but you know wat she as made many friends over the years. APNE get bullyed because they go out smelling of indian food... looking like they arrived of the boat. WHY DONT THEY TRY AND FIT IN.
you cannot go somewhere and expect to live like you do in india.... then why leave india in the 1st place.
also i think the quality of life in the uk is fast and fun but people do not have the qualities you find in canada like large houses and not living in a rat race... i love london... i would go back in a flash but to visit... that average person cannot afford to do things such as skiing/snowboard or spending the weekends on their boats or seedos... this is the difference between canada and the uk.
children here are so much more sports minded and outdoors...may sun or snow......in the uk kids spend their time hanging around malls and watching tv or playing computer games because their parents are at work til late... at least in canada they have an allround lifestyle.
this is reason i wanted to raise my kids here in canada.... because living the uk they would not have that quality...
but if i was single and wanting to roam about, london/paris/bombay would be for me.

Hi,

I have looked, but have not come across any british desi migrants. If there are any?
I would like to know, because we are considering making a move.

I have read about \"canadian experiance\" - how much does it differ from \"British experiance\" - in terms of skills. I am from a background of I.T Software Support, and would like to know what prospects are there especially in vancouver.

Secondly - how long does it take from the UK to move - ( estimate)

p.s- If anyone is curious why we are moving from the UK is , quality of life is not there.

cheers

Were you born and brought up in UK or woking in UK on a Work Permit?

Daks
