One of the poll on this site asks for user preference on settling down in US.

The question is "If give a chance would you prefer to settle in US?"
Majority of the people said "Of course".

At the same time there are many others saying "Not at all!".

Let us discuss here - marit and de-marits of settling in US as compare to Canada.

That's an interesting question Garvo Gujarati. Of course USA is a good place to settle down, but I would prefer Canada more. I don't know why, but there's just something different about Canada that isn't there about USA for me. I guess part of the reason why I would prefer Canada is because I've lived in Toronto for 11 years.

Honestly?

Well I had the option of migrating to the US. Since 1980, my sister was after me. I just did not accept. Today she is a citizen living in New York and I have a brother who is a citizen living in LA. But I did not want to bring up my children in the US because of the violence!

So I chose Canada. Inspite of high taxes, I believe the quality of life is far superior. At least speaking about Vancouver!

The truth in this matter is the opinons of "well-established professionls with good jobs" and "professionals who're stuck in the labor-job cycle and cannot find a way out" will be vastly different. If you're in the latter category, statistics are nothing but nonsense derived from Mathematics.

Generally speaking, if you're extremely ambitious and career-driven, the heights you can reach in the U.S. are significantly higher than the ones you can in Canada (one of the reasons all our actors move down there eventually). The size of the U.S. economy dwarfs that of the Canadian and the stakes are much higher.

However if you're comfortable with your job and have a broader perspective in life, Canada is at least as good as the U.S, if not better. Crime rate is markedly lower, education is comparable and racism is significantly less. And free healthcare comes in very handy when you're laid-off and God forbid, have a stroke.

Are you there?

This is major factor I think. Your perspective for looking at things will definately change if you are jobless and this country is not accepting you as whatever you are.

Whomever I met here have two agenda - study here and get good job or after three years migrate to US and settle in business. Unfortunately most of them fall in later category.

Let me tell about my life exp!!! I was born in India and had my schooling till high school and left to London, England (Not London, Ontario) for BBA and MBA. Worked for 4 years before moving to US. Landed in US worked for 1 year before moving to Canada. 7 years have passed and have been working in US and Canada. I work for a company have branch over US and Canada. I've seen both sides of the coin.

I prefer Canada over US. You may ask why? But it's a personal choice. Nothing is secured in US as long as you've your GC. Education is too high in good universities: Ex: If you want to do your "Construction Management" from USC the fee is around $45k. University of Toronto is leading university in Canada and comes top 15 in the world. For the same course you pay $15k Canadian. Still you get the same top quality education.

Health benefits: Yes Canada has high tax with health benefit free. US: If you're employer pay fine (Now most of the employer don't want to pay) If out of your pocket then it's very expensive. End of the day plus or minus Canada/US the same.

I can write more but want to keep it simple with important factors.

Hope this info will be useful. I'm not forcing my views on anyone, this is just my views.

Thanks,

Anand16

I would certainly move to the US if given a chance .

1) like to buy a big house and deduct all my mortgage interest on my taxes

2) like bigger salary and lower taxes

3) like capitalism as compared to socialism

4) would like to own big SUV's / Cars with LOW insurance rates

5) like cheap gas to put into those Vehicles

Thats all I guess for now
