to now I see the confidence in Balaji. This is what helps aspiring immigrants like me. He rightly pointed out attitude and confidence matter a lot.
Good luck Balaji.

Hi Balaji

It is heartening to know that you are happy with the first 6 months in Canada and are confident of doing better by the end of 2005. In my opinion, two things have helped you to be as satisfied as you are today:

1. The frank opinion of CD members, including me, about job prospects for a new immigrant, specially around the age of 45. These opinions helped you come to Canada with a mental attitude to face the worst problems and be positive, and there was nothing shocking or degrading to you.

2. Even though you are registered with some of the good (I wouldn't say top-notch) agencies in your field of accounting, you actually have got a break through your friend. This is what counts a lot anywhere in the world, not only in Canada.

Correct me if I am wrong!

Tell you something interesting - After having been interviewed and registered with PTC accounting (a top notch agency for finance professionals where the junior most job is $50k) almost 3 years back, I never got any assignments thru them. Finally I got a call from one of their consultants yesterday for a temp to perm job which would offer about 55k on becoming permanent. He talked to me twice in a day, once for about 15 minutes, and then again in the evening for over 45 minutes. He asked me a lot of technical/professional as well as behavioural questions (though not the regular team work/your shortcomings/best day, etc. etc. types - it was more directed towards what kind of work attracts me, why did I do CPA and why not CGA, what other courses I intend to do, am I planning to go on vacation in 2005 etc.). By the end of it all, he said that he likes me, and what all experience i have had and is now going to check my references (which he has since I got a mail from my ex-boss) and is recommanding me to his client. HOWEVER, he is not sure how soon a 55k job will finally bore me!!!:h

Here I am, looking for ANY job in accounting field - even if it offers 30k since its been three years in Canada and I am still not in a regular job, and this guy asks me when will I get bored of this job. (how I have answered this question is a long story too - but finally he is convinced that I will stay in this job for the minimum promised period).

So what am trying to prove by this? It comes back to the same old story - you are overqualified and experienced for this job, and since you do not have 'Canadian experience for a senior level job', we can not consider you for that!

So bhai Balaji - the moral of the story is - do you know anyone who can help me get a contract position for a year or so - no matter if it is a junior level position? However, what will count is a good company - since that reflects on your resume.

Chandresh
