Dear All,
I landed in last week of Jul. Was called by an agency for interview (I posted abt 300 applications for jobs directly to advertisers in vain!!) and asked to go to Peel childrens centre for a reconciliation work in Sept end. It was a 3 week assignment. From mid-oct, they sent me again to Salvation army for a inventory job which keeps calling me now and then. I then went to work at a CA firm for a month. And finally have landed in a 15 month contract (maternity leave) through a friend! I am registered with all the top notch head hunters like Accountemps, Accounting Advantage, Apple One, Peoples bank but the jobs came in only from Staffing Strategies and Ajilon. Anyways , i am happy the way it has been for me during the first 5 months and for a year from now. I am sure I will land in a decent job after this 15 mth CANADIAN EXPERIENCE IN ACCOUNTING. (My 15 years of exp I presume gets me no where!!!). One thing is for sure, Positive Attitude, Taking up even labor jobs that arent too strenous etc, keeps the morale of guys like me high and I see light at the end of the tunnel.

Congratualtions and wish you all the best in future.
Your inputs on the following questions will help me prepare better for my move to canada:
1. was the salaries in odd /short term jobs good enough to sustain your family expenses?
2. Did you dig into the money you took from India? if yes, how much?
3. Do you think networking works better than head hunters in landing a job?
4. Your "Must-Do" list for a newbie while hunting for a job.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
I started off at $ 12 per hr, went to $ 9 at Salvation Army, $ 11 at the Chartered accountants and now $ 15 with a hike to $ 17.50 after 3 months. The main reason was to gain Canadian experience especially on ACCPAC and QUICK BOOKS apart from the taxation process. Though it isnt difficult due to my Oracle financials implementation experience, I am supposed to have it for my career prospect. Since my wife also made abt $ 350 - $ 400 teaching kids at a tuition centre plus the child support, I was able to pull on without touching my savings. I am sure $ 2500 p,m would be sufficient for a family of 4 to survive on with decent style of life

Good luck to everyone
Thats a Great start . Very Motivating Indeed

We will find a way or we will make one
Thanks Balaji
Wish you all the luck in future.
Cheers
