I think u answered your own question.
Critical thinking skills through post secondary studies? Wow! If that were to happen in India to the educated folks, then India would have pushed aside USA and other developed countries. "Somehow get a degree in the field that gets you a job" is very different from critical thinking.

DIO

Unfortunately its not just India. The same mindset must exist everywhere.. I think it depends on the individual.
Thanks for replying though !

Yes...the female fetus elimination in the lower class Indian Society is very tragic...it will have a devastating effect in the long run....we might have to pass a "same sex marriage bill" in India very soon...and it would be specifically for the male species only...

are you being sarcastic?:)

Sex selection and abortion is not limited to the lower classes of Indian society..Its in the upper classes as well (according to the article)

I have read that already India is feeling the effects of this trend - There are less female births than male births and supposedly (according to an article I have read) men are having trouble getting married due to lack of eligible women!

Hey Rain,

""having trouble getting married due to lack of ""eligible"" women!""

You are answering yourself...there is a diff between women and eligible women...this can be discussed for hours...i'll send you a PM and you may reply if u want to...

But the bottom line is that, in India and in Metros even today, when a male becomes eligible to marry, his parents receive numourous proposals from the Females parents/ wellwishers...it may sound silly but it is a fact...check it out

This is really going off on a tangent, however I defined eligible women to mean "woman of similar age that are also looking for prospective marriage partners".

Secondly.. I dont think the above sounds 'silly'. It works out both ways. Both families are likely to get proposals etc.

this topic can continue forever......

as usual you didnt get my context.....by 'silly', i meant that it is silly that only the boy's parents should get proposals and not the other way around...but thats how it is...its a fact...check it out...the girl's parents have to make extra efforts to propagate the proposals...its tough for them, while the Boy's parents take it for granted that they r one step ahead....thats what I meant....Phew...this is a conflict of English bet ween a first and second generation desi in Canada.
