Hi,
I have the following question,
Me (as principal applicant)+ daughter+ wife have been granted Canadian immigration visas (skilled class). Me + daughter will be landing in November this yr. Can my wife enter afterwards within the validity period (i.e. is she eligible to enter alone from a different country)?

Big head... again can u post some links to documents relating to this ? I had a problem with my friend not able to travel separately, as his wife applied as a dependent and not as an independent candidate.

12.14. Arrival of the principal applicant prior to dependants
A principal applicant may have decided to proceed to Canada in order to commence employment or to confirm that adequate settlement arrangements such as accommodation and educational facilities are available prior to the arrival of their dependants. An officer must confirm that the dependants meet the requirements of the Act or the regulations before granting permanent residence status to the principal applicant. In most instances an officer can assume that persons listed on the principal applicant's permanent resident visa meet the requirements of the Act and regulations and can grant permanent residence status to the principal applicant. If an officer has reason to believe the dependants may not have been examined, the officer may further the examination pursuant to A23 pending confirmation from the visa office that they have been examined.

Damm, this means that its upto the officer whether to grant or reject the application (if landing separately) ?

its only in exceptional circumstances that principal applicants are denied landing because the entire family is not present, and these cases usually involve where there are dependants who have been listed as non accompanying during the processing and hence were not examined but at the time of landing the principal applicant changes his/her tune and says that non accompanying dependants will also follow later on...
I do not know if the rules have changed, but, when I applied in independent category in 1996 as main applicant, the visa officer specifically advised me to go to Canada alone, look for job and then ask my family members and dependent to join me. His advice made a lot of sense at that time for a new immigrant but I decided to land here with my family because I had my siblings well settled here.
So if the rules have not changed, then there should be no problem and in this case there should not be any as the spouse can join any time within the validity of the visa.
