Hi Guys,
I was not able to take decision on moving back to India or Stay in Canada and finaly at this point I have decided to stay in Canada.
I bought a new home which will be ready in 2010. This willbe my first home in Canada and I am not aware of lot of basic stuff.
I am sure I'll get lot of help from this site. I have few questions here.
1. I have laundary room on first floor. It doesn't require sink or tub. Builder giving laundary Tub in Basement.
I am thinking to install washer/dryer in Basement. (I do not want to move laundary connections from
first floor to Basement. So, in future I can move washer/dryer to laundary room if I want).
Builder is asking $968 for extra laundary connection in Basement. (It is too much)
I think there will be only the issue of dryer vent installation in basement. (Let me know if you think about other problems)
I have three options if I do not want to pay $968 to builder.
1. Install indoor dryer vent box available in Market [$20] [Need to check about safety]
2. Buy ventless dryer [Don't know the price range]
3. Buy ventless washer/dryer combo [I do not prefer but it is an option]
What do you suggest?
What are +ve/-ve of laundary room on first floor?
2. What do you suggest for Stove (Gas OR Electric). Why? I'll have to ask for Gas line if deciding to go for Gas Stove.
3. Could you suggest for good stainless steel appliences [Company and Model]? [Less noise...]
Thanks in Advance

Success is Never Ending and Failure is Never Final.
A lot of people in 2 storey homes prefer laundry room in the second floor due to convenience to the bedroom. So, basement is only taking the laundry that much farther from the bedroom, wherever yours is located. I do not see any difference whether in first floor or basement. It is your convenience and preference. You could free up the laundry room and make it a utility room if you put the laundry in the basement.
Also, if you are not happy with the builder's price, you can always get the connections done at a later date using a handyman. A handy man may be cheaper (but you have to buy the materials).
Gas or electric stove is again a preference. I have not had a gas stove, hence can't say. Depending on what your builder provides, you may either have to pay extra for the 220 V electric or a gas line.

If the washer overflows on 2nd floor the water will ruin the floor. If it overflows in he basement the water will go down the drain in the floor.
