Hi,

I live in an apartment and have a laundry room downstairs which is always full and was wondering like if any1 who lives in a rental building has a portable washer and dryer in their apt. I am talking like the ones which we use back home in india.

if yes pls provide details as to where did u buy and how much did it cost.

We've bought a portable Danby washing machine, which hooks up to the washbasin. Its a top loader, so the quality of the wash is not very good (compared to the frontloaders) but it suffices.

Not sure about portable dryers, we use a drying rack. Again the quality of the drying rack is terrible, compared to the Italian ones available in the Gulf.

we got the Danby from Walmart and the drying rack is available in most stores.

Good luck.

Please go through these machines and see the suitability of the machines in size. shapes and the usage it has to go through and the costs associated with them. Buy one that will last and last for years. Might cost a few extra bucks, but will save you the soap and dollars.

Newer machines do both, wash and dry too.

There are a few points to keep in mind priore buying washer dryer in rental apartment (building).
1. Lease agreement doesn't allow tenant to use/keep washer/dryer in aprtment legally. Landlord can charge you penalty, fees or order to remove those. You will be OK untill no one see it or none of your neighbour complaint. (Complaint could be noise, getting cold or hot water)
2. Most washer can be used in apartment because they consume 110v. Largest size washer can be used in apartment. Just make sure when washer rinses, your sink is not clogged or over flowed.
3. Only portable dryers can be used on 110v, which are too small and take very long time to do job.
4. Using dryer in apt is not safe for health, specially for kids or elders with asthma.
5. Selection of washer, I would suggest, top loader mid to large size. Front loader are too expensive to maintain. (Do not prefer portable)
