Great news. When would it start?
Paperwork will be done by the lawyer.

----"CREA opens MLS up to allow flat-fee listings by licensed realtors if the local member boards approve the changes locally."
The Canadian Competition Bureau responds with "that's a step in the wrong direction" and argues it makes the marketplace less competitive not more.

Lot of Realtor will not renew their license if these changes become law.
This is a big cartel industry all over Canada who spends lot of money on lobbying, advertisement and keeping monopoly.

My Input
Yes., You can sell your Home yourself. I based my calculation on a 400,000 CAD home. Realtor commission for this house will be 5% or aprox. 20,000 . You can save so much money if you have the time to do selling yourself. You can use the services of by the owner.com , they cost around 700-800 CAD upfront, You can spend another 5000 dollars for upgrading your house like repainting etc, so in total you will be spending 6000 dollars & you can save around 14,000 or so. Only thing is that House should be in high demand area so that it can sell easily by itself.

Correct!

I would really like to see the discussion on this and about the Competition Bureau stand. It will be interesting to see what do Realtors have to say about this fiasco(of-course they will opine that it's too complicated for a common man to sell their house without Realtors..haha. Show me something new here)

For me, it's a step in the right direction. We need more competition and ways to sell/buy our respective houses. We also need a 'get rid' of Realtors' bulldozed fee structure, and moreso better to get rid of Realtors altogether (a dream, I know). Just a few real estate Lawyers, Notaries, and MLS type service would do the trick for anyone selling/buying.

So, go Melanie Aitken go...

I'm also surprised so far not a single realtor has put any comment

We might get some comments from Realtors if this post is moved to Real Estate section.

My take on this. I spoke to couple of realtors I know. Looks like it could potentially end up like any private listing website. The agent will upload your info for a flat fee. Then u r on your own, just like any other private listing sites. U may not get the prices of houses that were sold. That means u cant compare the price/get an idea of how much u have to list your property. Dont forget that many drifters / time fillers will come to see the property who are not in the market or who dont have financial backing to buy. U just need to get one serious buyer.
